Question of the day
Q: Could we possibly be any more disgusted with the Republican candidates for president?
A: No.
Okay, we’re done.

It almost makes me want to cry. If the GOP had fielded someone who wasn’t a lunatic or a cariacature, the Democrats might have taken a serious look at Obama and decided to change their line-up. As it stands, the Republican candidates are doing Obama’s work for him.

What Susan said. But I wonder: Can anyone come up with a name for that prospective R candidate?
I’m asking in earnest as, allthough I’ve been following US politics closely for the last 4 years, as a non-American I’m not really ‘in the know’ of politicians further down the ladder, or maybe not yet in politics.
I find it spectacular (and entertaining but in a disheartening way) that what we’ve witnessed is the best the Republicans can come up with. In a country with so much talent in all other fields, it’s mindboggling.

That’s because the Republican party is the party for crazy people and morons. All successful Republican politicians have to espouse the same moronic crap.

Which is why Obama knew he was in the catbird seat.

I can’t believe how much energy the Republicans are continuing to expend on this race. They apparently need to make sure to choose exactly the right clown to lose spectacularly to Obama.
In reality, though, it probably wouldn’t have taken much to unseat Obama, it’s not like the country is exactly allergic to crazy right-wingers, incompetents or fools. All they really needed to do was find someone without a particularly repugnant personality, someone who doesn’t strap dogs to car roofs, someone who doesn’t have a boatload of bizzare public behavior to live down, and they couldn’t even manage that.

This made me laugh. So true. All this energy to choose exactly the right clown.

Wasting any psychic enegy on this “election” is a mug’s game.
This is worse than Kabuki; it’s just say Noh theatre. -

To be honest, apart from Hillary, a Democratic playing field would be equally disgusting, disheartening, and mind-boggling.

I like Buddy Roemer. He’s running for the GOP nomination but he can’t get any traction because he supports campaign finance reform and will only accept campaign donations of $100 or less. He’s probably socially conservative but I’ve never seen him talk about it. He’s a bulldog on getting the money out of politics and getting rid of too-big-to-fail financial institutions. He doesn’t come across as looney which, in a better world, should earn him the GOP nomination but won’t.

Violet Socks says:
Buddy Roemer’s position on campaign finance reform is pretty much the only thing he has going for him. He believes in civil rights for zygotes and the rest of his line is typical Republican bullshit and economic magic dust.

4 more years of Obama doing their bidding, then they’ll be in a position to elect absolutely anyone they want. Win-win for the GOP.

Yup. I’ve been saying this for months (years?). And there’s a bonus: the godbags own these primaries, so when their guy loses to B0, the Repub leadership can get them back in line. “Just shut up and vote for whoever we give you.”

Ain’t that the sad, painful truth! Which is why I’m voting third party this year.
They apparently need to make sure to choose exactly the right clown to lose spectacularly to Obama.
I dunno. I’ve got a bad feeling the right clown just might win. If the past 12 years are any indication, America has an astonishing propensity for putting clowns in the White House.
