The Smoking Lounge endorses Herman Cain
On behalf of God, Nietzsche, Raoul, Alex the African Grey Parrot, and the rest of the denizens of the Smoking Lounge, I’m happy to announce that we’ve decided to endorse Herman Cain for president. After seeing this stunningly artistic and powerful campaign ad, we really had no choice:
I should like to note that we’re also endorsing Marlboro Lights as the Official Cigarette of the 2012 Presidential Campaign, and Costco’s value size 1.75 liter Texas Spirit Canadian Whisky as the Official Drink of 2012 Presidential Campaign chiefs of staff.

he’s smoking a cigarette!! (pause while I roll one of my American spirits)
Thought came to me this evening: Koch brothers funding him big time. Wondered if they think Cain’s the best chance the Republicans have to give Obama a run for his money. Hey, he’s the real thing.

There is so much awesomeness in this video, I can hardly stand it.

If he won a Republican primary or caucus, would he be the first black person to do so? Not that that’s a reason to supprt him, but it’s interesting. I was rather hoping Bachmann would win some and make it to the convention (sort of start the Woman Question on the Republican side the way Hillary started it for the Democrats) but it looks like that’s moot.)

In its own quiet way, it ranks up there with the epic poems produced for Carly in the California senate race — “Demon Sheep” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRY7wBuCcBY) and “Hot Air: The Movie” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJKlc77K5dg)… the Iliad and Odyssey of modern political communications.

Maybe it’s a test: if he can keep his standing in the polls and not acquire the pariah status connected with smoking, well, he’s good to go.

Of course we already knew that in the Smoking Lounge.

You mean there’s actually smoke in the Smoking Lounge? Gasp!

Have I lost all critical judgment, or is Cain actually a pretty decent singer? As wacky as that video is, I was oddly impressed by his ability to stay on pitch.
I dare any other candidate to match that performance!

Violet Socks says:
No, I thought the same thing, Carmonn. He’s an amateur for sure, but better than the average person.

Ciccina says:
I thought you meant that was Cain singing in the campaign ad.
Confusion ensued.

Okay, I broke down and watched that thing. Does anybody have any theories what’s up with that smoking bizzo? It has zero to do with what he’s saying.
I mean, I could see a “no gubmint’s gonna tell me what to do!” followed by a toke-toke. Or something like that. But, no. He’s just talking about … well, I forget what he’s talking about and I can’t watch it again, but whatever it is it has nothing to do with rebellion, regulations, smoking, or how he’s just doing it so he can stick with his diet.
So what do a couple of irrelevant puffs on a cigarette mean to Cain supporters? It’s like some sort of bargain basement Zen koan and it’s going to keep me awake at night.

Monchichipox says:
Funny and sad that a few puffs of tobaccy is the only interesting thing in the campaign.

I think it has to do with the “I Am America” ditty. Unlike fake politicians who try to hide their smoking like the President, the Real American Amateurs aren’t hiding anything, they’re unprofessional, unpolished, unafraid to stare directly into the camera and embarass themselves.

angie says:
Re: Cain’s singing — he’s a part time minister in his church (which I read is the same one he’s belonged to since he was a little boy) and has always participated in the choir there. So, that is probably where he got his “training.”

quixote says:
“and embarrass themselves.” Hahahaha. Sounds about right. Also, the coded dig at B0.

chrisvee says:
Is this a real thing in the real world?
I guess so but it seems too weirdly awesome to be real.
I was totes confused by the smoking until someone in this thread pointed out it’s a dig against Obama.

I love how the ad talks about uniting the country and taking the country back. If they are doing both, who they hell do they think they’re taking it back from?

I watched this over and over and each time i burst out laughing uncontrollably when he lights up to the crazy patriotic anthem “i am America”
LOL
