Happy poll + hilarious parody
Tiny shards of light today. A new poll shows that Americans favor the OccupyWallStreet thingy by a margin of two to one. They also don’t like the Tea Party. Sanity! The full poll results are here.
And this affectionate parody of Elizabeth Warren (via New Deal 2.0) made me snort-laugh:
P.S. Reminder: Corrente is having a fundraiser and they need kibble!

This is great — and a related question: How does SNL stay on the air?

Who the hell knows. It’s a tradition. Has SNL done something particularly unfunny lately?

I can’t think of anything funny they’ve done since ’08 — when they were so good on the primaries. I suspect it was Tina Fay’s influence, and she’s gone. The writing now is so tired, unimaginative and trivial — endlessly repeated schtick that is neither topical nor interestingly offbeat (a la the show’s early “Mr. Bill” years). This despite the fact that there’s obviously loads of talent out there (witness this video… or, for that matter, The Daily Show which manages to be good — often great — four times a week).

Didn’t Judge Ito say during the OJ trial that SNL hadn’t been funny for 15 years? Even with 400 cable channels, there’s nothing to watch at midnight on Saturday, as long as they continue to attract hosts they’ll totter along forever.
