Just putting this up before we lose power entirely.

We didn’t have to evacuate, but I started stocking up days ago (and started eating everything in my freezer/fridge!). I bought: water, candles, non-perishable food, apples and bananas, batteries, a radio (I didn’t have a battery-operated one), baby wipes for quasi-baths, plastic cutlery, and, of course, supplementary reading material.
Heavy rain just started as I finished this up, oye. We’re expecting some flooding damages, and I fully intend to avoid windows as Irene passes through!

We have power again for some reason, unlike the entire rest of my neighborhood and most of my county.
I’m sorry to see you’re still presumably without it. I’m hoping the resulting internet withdrawal is the worst thing going on with you and your family.
