Swannie says:
Sending rapid healing and freedom from pain . Will you have home nursing care? You might get to go home sooner :)
-
anna says:
How did it go? If you don’t mind telling. Were you able to pay for it all right?

lynnerkat says:
The world is even suckier than usual. Hope you’ve got good pain meds and that you feel better soon.

Cyn says:
Violet, I think of you as our fearless leader. I miss you so much! I am sending you energy and white light, positive thoughts and ramen noodles. Heal well, Sista.

Daphne says:
I saw this article from the Telegraph and thought of you:
“Democrats doubt Barack Obama’s reelection chances – President Barack Obama is facing mounting doubts within his own party about his re-election prospects, with fellow Democrats beginning to ask if Hillary Clinton would have made a better president.”

Violet Socks says:
Thank you all for your good wishes and for saying such nice things. I love you all.
Swannie, I am home now. I had the surgery last week and am now home recovering. Still with surgical drains, which I just can’t tell you how much I love (not). My mother is helping me, and I couldn’t ask for a better nurse.
Anna, the surgery seems to have gone well. I haven’t paid for everything yet; there are bills from various providers. No, I don’t actually have enough to pay it all yet, but I am going to work out maybe an installment plan for some of this stuff.

Carmonn says:
Get well soon. Nothing good’s been going on while you’ve been away, your voice has been sorely missed.

I got back from overseas a few days ago, only to find my favorite blogger in straits! A tiny donation just headed your way. Promise me to spend it on French pastry (or alpaca brushes, or whatever) and not the medical-industrial complex. I’m so sad to hear about all this trouble. I hope your recovery is as problem-free and quick as possible.
The only good thing is that you probably didn’t read the news for a few days.

Nina M. says:
Oh, Violet! I hope you feel increasingly better.
What’s been going on? Obama has been proving us right, unfortunately.
-
Toonces says:
Oh dear. It might be a good idea to just stick to puppy pics and flowers until you’re feeling a little better. The news will make you pop a stitch.
Wish you all the best and hope you’re comfortable and recover ASAP.

Violet, I hope you recover soon, and as pain-free as possible. Pulling for you.

Violet — I hope you don’t take this as too much of an intrusion, (and maybe you have already done this) but from my experience in my job, I know that most doctors are willing to cut bills as much as they can when you tell them you are in financial straits. I say “as much as they can” because there is only so much the hospital administrators will allow the doctors to cut. But, as I said, most doctors will do what they can by cutting the fees they are allowed to when presented with a patient experiencing financial difficulty. If you haven’t already talked to your doctors, it will not hurt to do so. Also, after that, TELL the hospital how much a month you are GOING to pay, don’t let them tell you. They will always take whatever it is that you can pay on a regular basis rather than risk having to send your account into collections. Good luck!

Oh good, you’re back. Not that your “Sick, not dead” thread didn’t apply to friggen everything, every day. Glad you’re on the mend, with the one who loves you most as nurse.

New talk from Michele Bachmann claiming she respects her husband and he respects her and that’s what she means by submission: http://www.realclearpolitics.c.....nd_is.html
So she seems to be backing off from the “Wives must obey husbands” deal.

Yay, you’re back! All I can say about the news is you might want to try and get as much rest as you possibly can.

Cynthia Ruccia says:
glad you had the surgery and hoping for a swift recovery for you!! I know that the drains are gross, but you’ll be free of them soon. Thinking of you….

Violet Socks says:
Thank you, everyone, for your good wishes. Y’all are the best.
I have a question for anyone who’s had surgery. I should have asked the nurses/doctors about this but I kept forgetting (or they told me and I forget what they said). After the surgery I had incredible all-over body aches and pain. The surgery was just on my abdomen, but afterwards I ached from head to toe. Every single muscle and joint in my body, from my neck down, hurt. I said to my mother, “What did they do to me after they put me under? Beat me up in the operating room? Put me in a barrel and roll me off Niagara Falls?”
It cleared up after awhile, but what caused that I wonder? Is it a general side effect of anesthesia?
-
Violet Socks says:
Cynthia, the drains are gross, but also weirdly interesting. I keep thinking of B. Dagger Lee’s faux dismay at the discovery that our insides aren’t made of glowing white light. No shit.
-
Sweet Sue says:
Dear Dr. Violet,
All major surgery is a massive assault/insult which accounts for the big flu like aches and pains throughout the body, not just where they cut.
Rest and all the best to you, now and for all time. -
Ciardha says:
I know whenever I’ve had to go to the hospital for any reason and received antibiotics it always gives me this weird headache at the top of my head and nausea after several hours.
I hope you feel better soon, and I’m hoping someone in our government finally gets a clue that we needed to do what FDR did straight off after becoming president during his first administration. Raised taxes on the rich significantly, put in strong regulations on banks and corporations, many, many government jobs programs, social security, etc…
-
Hilary says:
Violet, about the aches and pains thing- I think it is from the anesthetic. I had a kidney transplant last year and was in hell for a month afterward- everything hurt, not just my abdominal muscles healing around the huge-ass kidney strapped to my abdomen. I hope you get well soon, as has been said. I miss your biting witticism/criticism. Much love <3

Michele Bachmann is the first woman to win the Iowa Straw Poll: http://www.boston.com/news/pol.....traw_poll/
-
anna says:
Now Bachmann’s saying “submission means respect, mutual respect”
-
quixote says:
Sorry to be going OT in a thread on a real problem. For some insight on Bachmann and submission, read Historiann’s post and the comments. Short version: it’s code. It means one thing to fundies and another to others.

HeroesGetMade says:
Glad to hear the operation is over and you’re on the mend. I’m sending you healing thoughts and my new favorite thing to keep the dog days of August at bay:
Frozen Basil Lemonade
1 and 1/2 lemons, peeled
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
1/4 cup sugar (plus some agave syrup, to taste)
1 cup water
3 cups iceA juicer would probably make short work of it, but lacking one, I put the lemons, basil and sugar in a food processor until the basil leaves are particalized, then transfer the whole mess into a blender. I know it sounds weird, but it’s unbelievably good.

Carmonn says:
Is it something like giving birth, it’s such a traumatic event to the body that it creates unexpected all-over pain, in the most random places?
I have to disagree with Historiann, no one outside of the fringe right-wing press questioned Obama’s loyalty because his father’s Kenyan, certainly not in a mainstream debate as far as I recall, nor would it be appropriate or non-controversial to take the “dual loyalties” tack with regards to a Jewish candidate. She may be correct that Bachmann brought scrutiny on herself, but those examples are a bit specious in my opinion. Mostly, I wish Bachmann would just drop out already because it’s going to be exceedingly tiresome, she’s going to come in last in every state but the obsessive focus on her will continue and continue and continue.

Ugsome says:
Violet,
I am so glad you are on the mend. You should probably stay reclusive, as the world continues its march to hell.
In honor of the urban rebellion, here’s a refreshing, very British summer drink made with Pimm’s No. 1:
Take a jug or long drink glass and fill it with ice.
Mix 1 part PIMM’S* No.1
with 3 parts chilled lemonade.
Add some mint, cucumber, orange and strawberry. -

I wondered about Obama’s loyalties from the start, not only because his absentee father was Kenyan, but more because he spent a very large part of his childhood growing up in SE Asia. Patriotism/love of country/cultural identity is something that happens during those years. While patriotism has its dark side, it is something I think is necessary in a country’s leader. In times of crisis, a country’s leader must be someone whose first instinct is to defend that country.
Violet, I think the whole body aching thing is actually part of the healing process. Try to pamper your body with healthy nutritious food — fruits/veggies/ even if in shake or smoothie form. Rest & sleep. Be well.

I’m so glad you’re through surgery – I hope for a rapid recovery. World’s still in a handbasket and it’s getting awfully warm.
-
Carmonn says:
Well, my point was that historiann’s, in my opinion, comparing apples and oranges by drawing false equivalencies between challenges to candidates’ loyalties that are embraced by the mainstream media and challenges that would be denounced or ignored by the MSM. She may be correct that Bachmann opened the door by bringing the subject of submission up in the first place, but suggesting that it’s perfectly legitimate to openly question candidates’ loyalties and that everyone goes through it isn’t going to fly with the examples she chooses, in my opinion.
-
anna says:
I think michele bachmann has conveientely redefined submission to mean equality.
-
Sameol says:
I think that’s what fundies do. I’ve known a few submissive wives, and while they’re quick to say that the man is the head of the household and all that, they generally don’t actually acknowledge that it’s unequal. I don’t know if it’s pride or embarrassment or dignity or code or what, but even though they admit to being submissive they can’t bring themselves to embrace the ramifications of that. Instead, it’s always about how it’s a two-way street, there are obligations on the man to “rule” in a certain way and to respect the woman’s sphere.
-
Sameol says:
Oh and of course, as with the Third Wavers, “choice” is always a huge element of it. I made a free and equal choice to surrender my autonomy, I get to choose, respect my choices.

Violet, once you are under anesthesia , they position you however they need you , without regard to whether those muscles ever moved that way before . Glad you are home and feeling better . Sending more rapid healing , and a lovely recipe to quench your thirst .. and help you not miss summertime altogether …
Watermelon Limeade : limeade , fresh , frozen or homemade , and fresh watermelon cut up and seeds removed . Make the limeade ,blend or puree the watermelon . Use 2/3 limeade to 1/3 watermelon and enjoy!!! -
tinfoil hattie says:
Violet, I concur with the opinions of the commenters above me: anesthesia, bodily trauma, general ordeal of surgery.
I’ve been thinking about you, hoping you’re ok.

So glad you are back, and I have checked in very regularly even though I am only a lurker for the most part. Love to read your thoughts because they always make so much sense! Thinking of you as you recover. Lots of rest is the only answer, and some great recipes for beverages above can only make that rest more productive…take care.
