When I worked for the park service, we’d get budget cuts and our directorate would get together and mull until one of them would say, “I’ve got it! We’ll close the Washington Monument.” And the rest would say, “Brilliant! Brilliant. The American people will never stand for _that_. They’ll make them give back all our money.” The staff of the oversight committee would sigh wearily – as if they hadn’t seen the WashMon closure ploy 50 times before, and tell them, “You can close the Great Basin Visitor Center Maintenance Building, and cut back on the maintenance cycle for the Canyonlands White Rim Trail outhouses.” And just like a bunch of 4-year-olds, our directorate would say, “Rats. How on earth did they figure out our secret strategy?”
I hope we are the oversight committee in this silly extended metaphor.

If a family isn’t making ends meet, they don’t starve Grandpa. Someone gets a part time job, someone else gets an early morning paper route, they pull together and make sure everyone survives.
Of course, the Ruling Class in America does not care if we survive. Cut the war budget instead!
