Emergency Medical Blegging

Note: Please ignore this post if you are poor, cash-strapped, or otherwise struggling. This is only for those who can afford to help.

Longtime readers have probably figured out by now that I have a couple of medical conditions that rule my life (and my pocketbook). I’ve known for awhile that one of those conditions was eventually going to require treatment, and I’ve been trying my hardest to save up for it. Unfortunately, saving-up time is over. Things have suddenly deteriorated in a major way, and I need surgery. And no, I don’t begin to have enough money to cover it. So if you are one of those people who likes the blog and appreciates whatever it is that I do here, this would be an excellent time to pitch in a few bucks. It would mean the world to me.

I am so grateful for your wonderful friendship and kindness. I love you all.

Plus I added this to my Facebook page:

Violet Socks, unarguably a main stand-up feminist blogger who passionately championed Hillary Clinton, and who has been keeping us updated on the politics affecting researchers in pharmaceuticals (lots of layoffs, including hers), suddenly needs surgery (no job now, no coverage). She needs help; see her blog for details.

I’d help monetarily if I could, but all I can offer at the moment is a hug (if desired) and good vibes for a safe surgery and speedy recovery.

  18. Violet Socks says:

Hey everybody — thank you so much for the donations and offers of support!!! You are wonderful.

I’m sorry I’m just now getting back to this thread. After I published this post on Friday I went to the hospital to see the surgeon, get a CAT scan, blah blah. Long day. Yesterday I just rested. Tomorrow will talk to doctors about scheduling the surgery.

I’m very tired and kind of out of it, so I’m not real communicative right now. I am so incredibly grateful for everyone’s help.

  19. djmm says:

On its way. Thanks for all you do, Violet, and best of luck. ((supportive hugs!!))

Can you tell us how you’re doing? Have you collected enough to make a dent in your expenses or do you need more?

I made a modest contribution, but I can find more if you need it.

  21. Violet Socks says:

The contributions people have made are a HUGE help and I am beyond grateful. I can’t even put into words how grateful I am. Thank you, everyone, for your donations. auntenene, I am not sure how much of a dent it’s made relatively because now it turns out I’m going to need even more stuff done (as revealed in CAT scan). That’s why I need to talk to different doctors/surgeons this week and try to get it all sorted out. I’m just in the dark right now.

  22. Sweet Sue says:

My comment has disappeared; guess I spent too much time in moderation/limbo.
Anyway, best of luck to you.

Violet, there are hospitals that help out in times like this. My neighbor was let go from work, became very ill and had no money. The hospital gave her a huge break.

  26. propertius says:

Done – I’m so sorry you’re ill. Please take care of yourself!

  27. Cynthia Ruccia says:

Good luck with everything Violet!!! I’m still in the middle of breast cancer treatment but doing well. Will be done by the end of February!!!! Prognosis excellent. I’m having a reconstruction surgery on July 20—-maybe we’ll have our surgeries near each other and can have a good old internet gripe about everything!!!! Seriously, best wishes to you!!!!

  28. Violet Socks says:

Cynthia, I’m so glad to hear you’re doing well. Thanks so much for the good wishes, everyone.

  29. Carmonn says:

Best of luck, Doctor. I’m a little behind on my finances right now but I’d love to help if you still need it in the near future, please keep us posted.

  30. angie says:

If you bump this to the top around the 20th, I should be able to send some more then.

    Good luck.

  31. Wren says:

The most I can do is send good energy and wishes your way. I hope very much that you have an easy surgery and a fast recovery.
