Nightmare

So I dreamed it was the Great Depression, right? And I was there in a time machine or something, and all the Hooverites were there, talking about slashing budgets and cutting spending and tightening belts, and I was yelling No! No! FAIL! Here, let me show you this history book from 50 years in the future! And there’s this nice man over in England, Maynard Keynes — listen to him!

And then I said “okay, everybody vote for the other people, vote for FDR” — and then I looked and there was no FDR. The Democratic Party looked exactly like the Republican Party. Hoover on the left, Hoover on the right, Hoover everywhere. There was no escape.

And then I woke up.

My teen and I were talking about ageism. I mentioned that in another decade or so society would look at our generation as outliving its usefulness. He said “well, you could always be there to tell us about the good ol’ days” I said the stories about the good ol’ days are about to end for a decade or two. Sad. I have no faith in the people who represent us mitigating this disaster.
