The fauxgressives kept hammering on her even after she left office, and her approval rating has been going up. Virtually the entire media (left and right) is against her, but she can still wreak havoc using Facebook.

The most interesting thing to me about that clip is that Shatner looks genuinely surprised. Maybe he’s a better actor than I’ve given him credit for being.

I doubt it. His website is http://www.badacting.com

Oops! I made that up but it’s an actual website.

I’ve got a mad idea. Why not recruit Sarah Palin for your new political party?
She’s not as conservative as she wants everyone to think- like all Alaskan governors, she is a supporter of the Alaska Permanent Fund, which is social welfare at its most pure. Palin might be a social conservative, but her economic views are very mushy, and highly populist above all else.
If the old white men who run the Republican Party shove her out in 2012, she’ll go somewhere else and take her supporters with her. She’s demonstrably effective at speaking to the concerns and fears of the working class American. I certainly don’t suggest compromising the party to attract her, but if she were willing to meet you half way…

Maybe because she doesn’t share our values and goals?

She’s not a lot of the things, but she is a conservative.

I was more than a little surprised at the entusiastic audience response.

“values and goals”…
I’m using the formulation “values and interests” because the idea that we can actually use politics for concrete material benefits seems to have gotten lost in the discourse. The banksters are clearly doing politics for their own interests, so why not us? Especially since our interests include, oh, life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness…

Sarah Palin is A LOT more popular than the media, or TPTB, want anyone to know. That said, I’ll be (pleasantly) surprised if she’s on the Republican ticket in 2012. The pessimist in me is beginning to fear another Cheney/Bush ticket.

Donald W. Paulus says:
No doubt, Palin possesses charisma and the ability to motivate the masses. The question is what she will use this power for should she gain the highest office in the land. Her narcissistic attitude melded with a rough charm and photogenic personality could well be an explosive mixture; one capable of almost anything.

Sandra S. says:
Okay, maybe I’m asking a REALLY stupid question, but WHAT narcissism? Sarah Palin may be a conservative, but I don’t see any narcissism there. Maybe I’m still dazed from the narcissism of Obama, who wrote two autobiographies on the strength of essentially no accomplishments, but a woman who is totally okay with being interviewed while engaged in commercial fishing? Seriously?
I just don’t see the narcissism.

Sandra S. says:
To clarify, I don’t think that conservatism is in any way correlated with narcissism, I was just making a concession to acknowledge that people have legitimate problems with her as a potential leader.

Violet
She increased funding for HeadStart and low income health care. She was part of a group that wanted to set up a social safety net for pregnant college students. That same group was integral in getting the Domestic Violence Act and Child Enforcement Act passed. She insisted that Big Oil share its profits from resources attained in her state with its residents. She fought her own party’s corruption. She, despite her own personal belief set, vetoed discrimination against homosexuals and heralded a pro choice justice to the bench.
Overall, I wouldn’t completely say that her value system doesn’t match my own. Conservative or elsewise.
Is she perfect? No. Would I completely discount her? No.

Yes, that is funny!
And whatever one’s opinion and feelings about Sarah Palin and/or her politics might be, it’s refreshing to see her being treated as just another human being. Nice to see it can be done!

I’m not. Surprise celebrity appearances on talk shows tend to get enthusiastic responses, more so it seems when the celebrities in question are showing themselves to be good sports. If I recall correctly, she got a good response on SNL as well when she appeared alongside Tina Fey.

“Her narcissistic attitude ”
Seriously? Could you give an example of what you consider to be evidence of her “narcissistic attitude”?
