It’s the No Abortion Ban National Day of Action (I like “Stop Stupak” better myself, but who am I?):

  1. hm says:

Ben Nelson was on Greta last night talking about introducing Stupak type language in the senate bill. Obama will of course just cave in to get his vote.

  2. Shannon Drury says:

I’m with you on the STOP STUPAK language. I want his last name to be smeared as badly as Rick Santorum’s (pun intended), because he so richly deserves it.

  3. Violet says:

Hey, Shannon! Nice to see you.

Isn’t “stupak” the name now for the sepsis you get from a coathanger abortion? Yeah, it is.

  4. RKMK says:

Via an email from a friend:

“Republican Senator Orrin Hatch and Democratic Senator Ben Nelson are planning to introduce an amendment to the Senate health care reform bill that is virtually identical to the Stupak amendment. With both Republican and Democratic support for this damaging amendment, it is entirely possible that the resulting health care reform legislation will eliminate access to private health insurance coverage of abortion for millions of women.”

    From Black Agenda Report:

Everyone should read this. Arne Duncan is going to kill public education in this country and my obot sister said she would rather see Hillary dead than as president. My sister is a teacher and the union steward at her school.

read the comments. They are almost better than the article.

I have a beef with NARAL that goes back to May or June last year. Before the democratic primaries were over, their leadership decided to prematurely endorse Obama. They also got carried away, swallowed the Kool-aid, and put all their stupid eggs in Obama’s basket. Since then, NARAL has not received a penny from me. I recently explained to a person who called from their office the reasons why I wouldn’t contribute.

I also wonder where Naomi Wolf is these days, the one who mocked those who were against the image of Obama dressed as Superman in the MS magazine with a sign saying “this is what feminist looks like.” While being interviewed by CNN, she looked like she was about to have an orgasm while talking about how Obama rocked and how good he was.

Obama has, would, and will sell out any cause or people for political expediency purposes. And for those people who fell for the fairy tale, yes, I am sorry but “I told you so”; you just didn’t want to hear.

so now the liberals who drank the kool aid are going to “hold his feet to the fire”…… yeah right, as if he gives a damn. We SHOULDN’T have to protest the democrats. We worked for them and voted for them and we shouldn’t have to now fight them. Here in PA I was told that I had to vote for Casey because then the democrats would be in the majority and reduction in reproductive rights would never be on the table. HA
The party better wise up and run some women in my district or they lose my vote. I am not in the business of giving sexist men life time employment and a chance to get rich after they leave public office.

Like I commented at TC — those groups above in that list are part of the patriarchy — they all sold out to retain power — when they had no power in the first place.

I knew that 0bowma was bad news — so many of us knew what is happening NOW would happen. 0bowman isn’t pro-choice — hell he isn’t pro-woman. He is the enemy — and he has always been the enemy.

His wife is as hateful as he is — I’ve just re-read some of her comments and no where does she acknowledge that SHE got breaks because of the feminists and others who worked so damned hard to get women into male only colleges.

Her attitude and lack of awareness of the battles fought by feminists that broke up the ivy league colleges for Mrs. Obowman’s generation seems to be typical of the majority this age group and younger.

What happened is that these women have sold out to the patriarchy for some sort of perceived power — which is merely an illusion.

The token group of women in the Senate and Congress will more than likely sell out women — for what??? What will be their pay off?

Stupak’s name should be linked to the American Taliban — to hell with going to Afghanistan and spending BILLIONS$$$ There — meanwhile the clock is being turned back.

I expect that the text books will soon revert to the masculine. Go to an used book store and page through the ancient text books — she, her, hers — these words were rarely used. ALL the English books had only male authors. The addition of a few women authors is probably one of the few concessions made by the patriarchy.

Amazing how easy it is for these jerks to pull this religious dogma off.

  10. Violet says:

I understand the frustration with some of these groups, believe me. Particularly NARAL.

I would just remind everybody that NOW is under new national management. Terry O’Neill and her team are doing a great job. And many of the local and state chapters of NOW are terrific and run by really great people. (Shannon Drury, btw, is the president of Minnesota NOW.)
