Blog decoration and open thread
I thought I’d put up a picture of a something Thanksgiving-y, but I was distracted this morning by the reviews of Red Cliff, the new John Woo movie. Tony Leung is so beautiful I can’t stand it:
The gorgeous Takeshi Kaneshiro is also in the movie, but I prefer the way he looked in House of Flying Daggers:
Isn’t that better than a picture of a turkey?
Yeah, I admit it. One reason I love these Chinese costume epics is because the men are just so fine.
At any rate, we’re still plotting political rebellion in this thread, so please feel free to contribute. I imagine it will take us awhile to work through our plan for global hegemony. I’m still interested in hearing what other leftists and progressives are thinking, what other feminists are thinking, what single-payer advocates are thinking, etc. I know there’s a lot of frustration out there, but my sense is that nothing has quite congealed yet. That’s the problem with having an administration in power that is allegedly on your side of the fence, but isn’t really.
Speaking of global hegemony, here’s last year’s Thanksgiving thread with my family’s recipe for The Best Pumpkin Pie in the World. People, this pumpkin pie rules. Other pies quake before it. They tremble with their inadequacy. Pecan pies actually kill themselves when they see this pie. Seriously: bake this pie plus a pecan pie, and leave the two of them alone on the kitchen table overnight. It will not be pretty.

I have to work on Thanksgiving, and my folks are having big dinners with friends Friday and Saturday.
So we all decided that our Thanksgiving will be held on Friday morning when I come home from work, and we’ll gorge on my mom’s eggs benedict, which in my completely unbiased and objective opinion, is the most delicious thing in the history of humankind. Her Hollandaise sauce is so amazing, I would eat a brick if it were covered in it.

Aw, I’m sorry you have to work on T-day.
The worst Thanksgiving I ever had was the year I was in rehearsals for a tour. We worked double time the day before, collapsed into bed, and then sat around on Thursday too exhausted to actually cook. Besides, we hadn’t shopped or anything. We ate hash out of a can.

Open thread? Goody — I’ve been waiting to share this with anyone here who might not have seen it. I read an article on American Thinker (yeah, I know, I know, but it was linked to from another site & it is a good article). Anyway, the author claims Andrew Sullivan actually wrote that “Sarah Palin’s vagina is the font of all evil in the galaxy.” Now, I don’t know if Sully wrote that (and I refuse to read his reams of articles bashing Palin to find out), but frankly, he may as well have. Here is the American Thinker article titled “The Wilding of Sarah Palin:”

Oh, and keeping with the Thanksgiving theme: I’m cooking the Thanksgiving dinner for the first time ever! I’m actually very exicted about it. I pulled all the recipes, bought all the ingrediants, cleaned my house from top to bottom. Wish me luck! I just keep telling myself that roasting a turkey is the same as roasting a chicken, it just takes longer.

Angie, we’ve been talking about the American Thinker article in the other thread. Not positively. I think it’s wingnut propaganda.
Good luck with the cooking! It’s not hard. With the bird, make sure it’s completely thawed. And allow enough time for the roasting.

The census worker who was found dead with ‘fed” written on him was a suicide.

Violet — thanks for the heads up. I’ve got the bird defrosting in the fridge as we speak (24 hours for every 5 lbs. as per the food network).
I admit, when a tread gets passed the 150 comment mark I kind of get lost. Sorry I missed the previous discussion about the article. I agree with the “wingnut proganda” assessment (it is on American Thinker, after all) but I’m downright shocked & appalled at the Sullivan quote. Talk about vagina dentata!

I’m worried they’re going to put Hillary on Obama’s ticket for 2012. She’d probably do it too, to save her country and help out her beloved Democrats. It makes sense, Palin is a serious threat and the only weapon Democrats have against her is Hillary. They need her to prop up the lame duck and to capture the support of disenfranchised Democrats.
TGW posted about it.

That TGW post is good:

She also mentions Newsweek’s Michael Hirsh (they’re on a roll, eh?) complaining that he wishes Hillary would stop getting “sidetracked with women’s issues.”
I love it. Half the population, but we’re a sidetrack.

Yeah, I posted that in the other thread early this morning:

Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are calling her a prostitute — that’s the right-wing, I do believe — and Time has joined in (there’s the center-right) by photoshopping her with sperm in her hair.
I was replying to that ridiculous American Thinker piece on how misogyny is just a leftwing thing.

I think I am more excited about Thanksgiving this year than I have ever been. My partner is home from truck driving, which was something we weren’t sure was going to happen until Monday. And we get to go to my stepbrother’s house, and they have instructed us not to bring anything. It has been a long time since I have been able to just show up to the harvest feast and gorge myself.

That’s silly – misogyny is bipartisan.

*Sigh* and I’m a big fan of pumpkin things as well. I’m sure it’s a great pie though. -
