Breaking Michael-Jackson-is-still-dead news

By Violet Socks · Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 ·

My brief run as a 24/7 Michael Jackson Is Dead blogger kind of petered out there since I didn’t really give a shit — or at least not enough of a shit — but anyway, before this opening sentence crawls any further up my ass, this is actually kind of interesting:

It’s eerie, watching him rehearse like that, just two days before he died. Yes: the Eerie has finally arrived. I’m actually feeling it! Christ, next thing I’ll be placing teddy bears and handwritten notes outside the gates of Neverland.

What’s interesting to me, as a former circus performer myself, is watching this almost-dead man and trying to figure out his status. He’s kind of marking his way through the number, which is understandable for a rehearsal. (Alicia Markova used to walk through her rehearsals in high heels and fur coat.) But he’s in time and on cue and knows what he’s doing: not the picture of a doddering pill-addled incompetent.

In other news: Debbie Rowe will seek custody, Michael is going to be buried at the Staples Center, and Jermaine wishes he’d died instead. Teddy bears for everyone!

The magnitude of the insanity, as it were -

The Pakistani parliament had a moments silence for MJ’s death.

    The Pakistani Parliament,

Truly, the world has taken leave of its mind.

  2. Violet says:

    Are you fucking kidding me?

  3. Sis says:

The *experts* I know say he did not die of cardiac arrest, but respiratory arrest caused by the sudden activation of a narcotic, after stopping an anti-depressant or some other drug which up until that time, inhibited the pro-drug narcotic (prescribed for pain). So it was an OD, but not because he took too much drug, but that the drug had not been activated up until the time of his stopping the inactivator. Is that clear?

    I know.

  4. jael says:

I am not fucking kidding you.

    Pakistan.

    Yes, that Pakistanl…

Right at the very end. Tacked on, maybe hoping it’d be overlooked?

But yeah - Pakistan. Who could have ever guessed?

  5. Sis says:

So. What does the Pakistani parliament expect to get for this kind of American ass-kissing?

I am soooo glad our prime minister Harper never does anything this obvious. (sic)

  6. lisas says:

Compare that with Britney’s tragic award show performance, in which she wasn’t on time or on cue, and didn’t really seem to know what was happening.

Sis, Harper doesn’t need to suck up via a dead pop star, he does it blatantly. He’s openly courted the American right for years, slimy bastard.

  7. yttik says:

MJ really does break my heart. It’s child abuse, MJ is scarred, every bit of him just screams it. And nobody wants to listen, I suppose because it disturbs our notions of traditional families, of patriarchal definitions, of religion, of the status quo, of wealth and fame.

He was handed a script as a child and he spent his whole life trying to rewrite and edit it, but nothing worked. Not money, not drugs, not surgeries, not all those animals, not the kids he adopted. Not his music. Nothing.

In this patriarchal system we live under, MJ’s father is excused for his crimes. He raped a child’s mind, body, and spirit so badly that MJ couldn’t even be in the same room with him without vomiting.

I think part of the grief over MJ’s passing is that there is this big secret that people can feel, an elephant in the room that no-one wants to discuss. People don’t say it, but MJ’s was a life unfinished, he never got the chance to overcome what was done to him, to claim survivorship, to speak the truth.

  8. jael says:

    Everything Yttik says. Perfectly said.

But this - this is better than Pakistan having a minutes silence.

Last of the Great Superstars? Before the internet and shuffle button got rid of them?

  9. angienc says:

jael — MJ recorded in Farsi? It really is true — you learn something new everyday.

The US House of Reps. had a moment of silence for MJ too the day after he died. First time ever for a celebrity. I thought that was a bunch of b.s., but then I remembered we have a “celebrity” as president, so it was actually quite apropos.

Big news in world events today is: Obama (finally) comments on MJ’s death. I know! What took him so long? {rolls eyes} While the msm was concentrating on that epic event, the #2 gay guy in the Obama WH announced that DADT & DOMA are not (and should not be) priorities. Too bad GLBT community, no soup for you.

  10. Sis says:

I’m confused about your comment, angienc. Farsi is not an Arabic language. Are you saying that was Farsi in the video? I doubt it.

  11. Besom says:

    Forget MJ. Circus performer??

  12. Sis says:

    Circus performer:

  13. jael says:

nah, it was from southern saudi arabia; it was in arabic

  14. Fredster says:

I’m just soooo glad you were able to hold back on the snark. ;-)

  15. simply wondered says:

oh dr s - how little your ‘fans’ truly understand you. not like me - i loved you before you were famous. i will certainly be leaving a teddy bear at leftiland on that dreadful day you (again) are taken from us to join the sky fairy and face its rather peeved questions about belief. i only hope i beat obama to the front of the queue.

fwiw jacko looked pretty professional in his rehearsal to me. but you see we know he was good at that - it’s everything else that was a miasma of doubts and fears.
