Heather says:
Violet, do you remember all the ‘feminist’ bloggers (Jessica V of feministing) who couldn’t do a damn thing to call out the sexism used against Hillary?
Well they’re being silent about Abeer now. And I think it’s something you should write about here or at New Agenda. C.I. calls them out on their silence regarding the ongoing trial of the ring-leader of the gang-rape and the murderer of Abeer.
14 years old and she was gang-raped and murdered by US soldiers. I really think this is something the New Agenda should be covering.http://thecommonills.blogspot......ot_30.html
And what about our Mud Flap Girls? The ones who put the woah-is-me into ‘do-me’ feminism? The chicky-baby-boom-booms of Baby Jessica’s Feministing have gone all damn week without ever noting the trial. The losers of Feministe? Not a word. And unlike when Sandra Day O’Connor announced her retirement, no one can claim they were too busy posting vaction pictures of themselves in bikinis for two weeks to bother cover it. Feminist Law Professors? Apparently War Crimes don’t interest the gals. Melissa McEwan and her posse of useless at Shakesville? Not a damn word. But cat blogging and baby photos they have time for. Being useless they always have time for.

Heather, I’m no longer involved with The New Agenda.

1. My favorite Who song is “You Better, You Better, You Bet.”
2. Abeer. I can’t believe how little coverage this is getting. If it weren’t for C.I. of The Common Ills, there would be no website covering it. I think AP is the only news outlet that has a reporter there every day. Those are war crimes and I can’t believe that, as usual, the same ‘girls’ who couldn’t defend Hillary would rather blog about cats and Lost than demand justice.
3. Violet Socks, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you weren’t part of The New Agenda anymore. Are you okay? -

Wha. . .?

I have to say as time goes by I’m less enthusiastic about the New Agenda’s agenda. I get the part about working on what we do agree on and leaving the things we don’t for other groups. But this latest Obama position on FOCA – no longer a legislative priority – has had no response from any major women’s organization. I’m afraid that while the New Agenda is tackling domestic violence and equal pay, both important issues, women are going to lose what little autonomy over own bodies we have. Since reproductive freedom is at the heart of so many other issues, I don’t think we can afford to make it someone else’s agenda.

I have personally found dropping a contract does wonders for nausea control. I also recall mention of work that belongs to *you*.

Ann Bartow says:
I’m unable to blog much of anything right now of any substance, for personal reasons. If Heather wants to start a blog about the Abeer trial, and do the actual work involved herself instead of using her time to flog other people, I’m sure many feminist blogs would link to it and promote it.
-
Sameol says:
Heather may have a blog of her own, but no small blog can bring attention to the issue like the large misogynist enabling Feminist blogs, who seem to have very limited interest in this sort of thing
-
Ann Bartow says:
You are wrong. A small blog can have a huge impact if the big blogs link to it and promote it. Which I think would happen if someone put some time into creating a blog that covered the trial.
But if you prefer virulently criticizing people over attempting constructive solutions, have at it I guess.
-
Sis says:
I don’t know if Women’s Space will cover the trial, but there is information here.
-
Sameol says:
That’s a pretty big if. Small blogs have done great work whistling into the darkness for ages and these miraculous links have failed to materialize. Perhaps the general suckitude of the major feminist blogs is the fault of smaller bloggers who don’t, or perhaps imagining so is more petulant buck passing than constructive solution.
-
quixote says:
As a microscopic blogger myself who’s been saying brilliant things since 2004 (brilliant! I tell you), my experience fits the hypothesis that big blogs don’t link to little blogs.
Mark the irony: you may say I’m missing the obvious alternative hypothesis that only my mother thinks my writing is brilliant. But since nobody else has read it, they don’t have a clue whether it’s genius or not. So they don’t link to it. So, ergo, it can’t be brilliant.
People may not –in reality– be missing much with my particular blog, but I’m with Sameol. Petulant buck passing by A-listers is part of the problem, not the solution.

Violet says:
One way to absodamnlutely guarantee that no one will pick up your story is if you hook up with a trash site to slander people and send nasty comment trolls.
Based on what I’m seeing in my trackbacks and moderation queue from Heather and her buddies, I’m not surprised no one is linking to them. More like banning their fucking IPs.

Ann Bartow says:
Thanks Violet. I’m getting same.

Ann Bartow says:
I’m not an A-lister, not even close, but when people e-mail me links to well written, well supported posts on feminist topics I almost always link at my blog. And I know I am not alone in this.

FWIW, Heart at Women’s Space has a lengthy post about the Green trial. Her early posts about the case are linked here: http://feministlawprofs.law.sc.edu/?p=735
and here:
http://feministlawprofessors.com/?p=733Heart reported she was getting threats back when she wrote the posts that are linked withing the FLP posts back in 2006. Her recent post is here:
