Pope’s Christmas message to the world: people and rainforests both threatened by excessive logging

By Violet Socks · Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 ·

Some things are so ridiculous that they defy ridicule. Such is the case with the latest message from Christ’s Vicar on earth. Which is just as well, because I’m too busy right now to do it justice with a proper post.

I will say that the folks expressing outrage over this are missing the point. Clearly God has sent us Ratzinger as a kind of global comedian, a figure so hilariously absurd that his only possible function can be to lighten the world’s mood. He’s a Party Pope!

Who Would Jesus Hate? Just ask the Party Pope!

Not sure about the world as a whole, but it looks like it’s too late to save the Catholic Church itself from the Gay Peril. We’ve all heard about those guys and their thing for altar boys. And look at that simply fabulous outfit that He Who Zings Rats is wearing in the photo!

Seriously, this is a really weird argument. The union of man and woman must be “respected” — fine, but how does leaving a tiny minority free to live differently constitute a failure to respect that? Is heterosexuality so fragile that showing any tolerance for the alternative might destroy it? Hardly!

All he needs is a red wig and he’d look like Queen Elizabeth I. I do wish these guys would stop dressing in women’s robes.

Have you seen the picture of his “assistant,” Monsignor Georg Gaenswein? Perhaps God’s Rottweiler dresses for him….I wonder if he has a very special collar?

Having been raised a Catholic I always found it amazing that someone that was supposed to represent Jesus was so often such a mean-spirited sonofabitch.

This “Party Pope” uses his Christmas message to trot out his homophobia? Still amazing me after all this time.

I am really, really trying not to be outraged. Really.

Sounds like another “male supremacist” that Obama could have in his buddy group.

I’m really sick of this shit. I’m trying really hard to focus on Christmas cookies but I’m finding my head spinning again.

The gay community (and all other sentient beings) need to keep the anger and fire alive. What’s with Melissa Ethridge calling Rick Warren a “great guy”??? Ummmm, gay marriage isn’t going to come to our country by calling that way……

Since I may not be online for a bit, I’d just like to say:

Hey, that guy’s impersonating me! I would never say stupid shit like that. Or at least not that stupid shit.

Jesus never said a word about gays, beyond doing unto others as you would have done unto you. And not judging and loving your neighbor and all that good stuff. However, he did have quite a bit to say about the Moneychangers. Sound advice given the economic conditions of our country right now. We were supposed to drive the Moneychangers out, not put them in charge of the world economy. How bizarre that we got all sidetracked with witch craft, gays, wearing red shoes to church, fornication. Rarely do you hear any concern about the Moneychangers, exploiting the poor by charging interest, money making mega churches, usury. The only time I’ve even heard it mentioned was by Jimmy Carter who made sure the Habitat for Humanity program did not charge interest on their loans. Profiting off of lending money to the poor is a major abomination and can lead to fall of civilization. Very few people ever took that seriously, but looking at the trouble we’re in over credit and mortgages and 9 trillion dollar bailouts, we should have paid better attention.

Slightly OT - apparently, the CIA is handing out those little blue ED pills to tribal chieftains in Afghanistan. I totally hate this sort of $hit - put them back in an authoritative position, indeed - I’d put them in a position, but it certainly would NOT be one of authority.

Afghan tribal leaders often had four wives — the maximum number allowed by the Koran — and aging village patriarchs were easily sold on the utility of a pill that could “put them back in an authoritative position,” the official said.

    snip

Such was the case with the 60-year-old chieftain who received the four pills from a U.S. operative. According to the retired operative who was there, the man was a clan leader in southern Afghanistan who had been wary of Americans — neither supportive nor actively opposed. The man had extensive knowledge of the region and his village controlled key passages through the area. U.S. forces needed his cooperation and worked hard to win it, the retired operative said.

After a long conversation through an interpreter, the retired operator began to probe for ways to win the man’s loyalty. A discussion of the man’s family and many wives provided inspiration. Once it was established that the man was in good health, the pills were offered and accepted.

Four days later, when the Americans returned, the gift had worked its magic, the operative recalled.

“He came up to us beaming,” the official said. “He said, ‘You are a great man.’ ”

“And after that we could do whatever we wanted in his area.”

This one may go into moderation, too, for the link to the article.

Notice how the word “choice” is used in this article - and then refer to the other post about the CIA giving Viagra to village elders. Confront the “disturbing” self-immolation crisis??? Look in the patriarchal mirror for the answers - they’re all there.

WHEN A WOMAN’S ONLY CHOICE IS A FIERY DEATH

Patriarchal Afghanistan culture tries to confront disturbing self-immolation crisis

    From the article:

“The family and village elders dominate life here,” said Sima Shir Mohammadi, who heads the ministry of women’s rights branch office in Herat. “Women have little influence in matters of their own lives.”

  12. slythwolf says:

I can’t bring myself to find Pope Palpatine I amusing. Too many people actually listen to him.

  13. Anna Belle says:

Thanks for the links on the CIA story and the self-immolation story. I wrote about the CIA/Viagra story today. Better Patriarchy Through Chemistry Hope it gets more attention.

  14. Sis says:

I propose to open a “best non-sequitur on women’s issues” contest. Here, at the end of this Holy Thread.

    From today’s Globe and Mail:

“MP wants to reopen abortion debateComment

New chairman of Parliamentary caucus opposed to abortion pledges to rekindle debate in Canada, bring ‘more value’ to lives of unborn children.”

Go ahead. Try to beat that one.

  15. Polly styrene says:

“Is heterosexuality so fragile that showing any tolerance for the alternative might destroy it?”

Well yes actually, I reckon it is, otherwise why would they go to so much trouble to enforce it? But FWIW, I think the pope was telling women to get back in the kitchen and have babies, he wasn’t talking about homosexuality (gay men natch) at all. The problem is if it was reported he’d just said traditional gender roles should be upheld (cf Mr Warren) everyone would just have gone - and? So his ridiculously obscure ramblings were interpreted as anti gay. But in the past he has said that feminism causes women to become ‘adversaries of men’ and has ‘lethal effects on the family’.
