If you vote for Obama, this is what you’re voting for (Reminder #3)

By Violet Socks · Friday, October 24th, 2008 ·

The following two things cannot both be true:

1. Obama, with the help of David “the Astroturf King” Axelrod, has run a brilliant internet/grassroots/media campaign, shaping the discourse in the netroots and the media throughout the election season.
2. Obama has no knowledge of, or control over, the virulent misogyny that his supporters have displayed on virtually every pro-Obama outpost in the netroots and the media.

Observe:

Just slit her throat, lock her in a car boot, and drive the car into river in West Virginia.

Ain’t gonna let no whore screw with the man

And a Drive-By Won’t Be Out of the Question. What goes around, comes around. The stupid fucking bitch !!

Talk About WHITE TRASH that bitch better keep looking over her shoulder.

Those were all Obama supporters talking about Hillary Clinton.

Obama defenders invariably claim that these are isolated cases, but of course that’s not true. Anyone who’s been online this year knows perfectly well that misogyny has been the hallmark of the Obama camp. (Visit the Huffington Post and search on “assassination” for just a taste. Or even TPM, where commenters fantasize about punishing Hillary supporters after the election the way French “whores” were publicly shamed and abused for sleeping with German soldiers.)

DailyKos splintered over this crap. The progressive blogosphere itself splintered over it. It wasn’t a mirage.

And this is the kind of thing it’s led to:

Obama supporter assaults a female McCain supporter and carves a “B” into her face: Maybe not - see update

Obama supporter beats a female McCain supporter with a stick:

And even this, where urban sophisticates don fake-fur vests and pretend they’re murdering Sarah Palin — all in good “fun”:

(But it’s about the poor animal, says the artist. Oh really? Is the artist a vegetarian? If not, then where did her meat come from? I abhor hunting myself, but by god, it is a thousand times more humane than factory farming and slaughterhouses. The caribou shot by Palin lived a better life by far than the poor damned creatures who died to make your Bacon Burger and Chicken McNuggets. Bullshit it’s about animal rights. It’s about reviling Sarah Palin.)

Deep breath.

Obama defenders also claim that even if Obama’s supporters are raving woman-haters, the man himself isn’t like that. To which I say: so what? His personal feelings don’t matter; what matters is the means he’s willing to use to advance his goals.

Step outside your American frame of reference for a moment and imagine you’re observing a foreign country. If a political leader is willing to stoke the fires of woman-hating among his followers to build momentum and consolidate support, what does it matter if in his own private dealings he’s not really a raving misogynist? It matters not at all. All that matters is the army of men he’s raised screaming stone the bitch! kill the cunt!

Obama has not once distanced himself from the misogyny of his supporters. Not once. He has never chastised them. He has never once tried to rein them in. If you think that’s not a deliberate choice, god help you in your blindness.

Every word in this article is true, and I am enraged by it. I got into a heated shouting match with someone at work who suggested McCain’s camp “hired the guy” who attacked and disfigured the McCain supporter.

And yet, I’ve just come from Anglachel, where I have been informed that, although I may not have committed a rape YET, the fact that I have a penis and the fact that I have never personally intervened in a rape make me as guilty as any serial rapist.

And the questions flashed through my mind again: “Why the hell am I bothering? Why am I trying to help or even participate? Why the hell do I even care anymore?” These are questions I’m finding harder and harder to answer.

If anyone wants to try to talk some sense to Anglachel, please do. I’ve already deleted the bookmark. Congratulations, Violet; you’re the last (non-parody) political comment site I still visit.

I’ll continue fighting the good fight. But I’m damned sick and tired of being rewarded with a kick in the testicles simply because I HAVE testicles.

I just read Anglachel’s post and I’m not seeing it that way. She’s not saying you personally are a rapist; she’s saying men-as-a-group are the people who commit rapes and it’s up to men and male culture to stop it.

    This is a truism, surely.

Obviously not all men are rapists, but rape is a guy thing. Not all women have babies, but having babies is a woman thing.

  3. Violet says:

Though let me add I’m sorry you’re upset. I don’t think Anglachel is saying quite what you think you’re saying (does she believe her husband is a rapist? Surely not.)

  4. P. Ingemi says:

The worst part of all of this is the Hal Chase angle:

Hal Chase was a first baseman 100 years ago, everyone who saw him play says he was the best defensive first baseman they ever say. The media loved him, however early in his career he has a history of “laying down” (throwing games) and hanging with gamblers.

In 1918 a hearing was finally held where the facts and the history came out Chase charged that those against him on teams etc were part of cabels against him. The main wittness was fighting WWI and not present. Chase was aquitted. The whole thing came out and he was given a pass. It must have made him think he could get away with anything because the next year he was involved in the Black Sox scandal that fixed the 1919 World Series.

Sen Obama has a history, I may be more worried about different parts of his history but in terms of this blog there is a long history here that you have documented of misogyny by his supporters. All of this has been out there and remains out there, yet Sen Obama is currently leading and has the inside track to be president.

All of this is out there and a pass is still given. What do you think the result will be? I think that Sen Obama will be unrestrained and the results will be bad. I think it will result in stronger denial by those who know better because they will not want to acknowledge what they had a hand in what happened and their sense of denial will become stronger and stronger.

Lucky for us in my opinion America is strong enough to survive idiots, we have done it before, but that works only if we are willing to recognize them and correct ourselves later.

  5. j0lt says:

Why is the B on her face backward?

  6. samanthasmom says:

Because her assailant was behind her and looking down at her cheek? It’s both backwards and upside down. Were you just asking, j0lt, or were implying something?

  7. Violet says:

Oh, you know j0lt is an Obama volunteer and donor. She’s just doing her bit for the campaign. Yay, violence against women! Woo hoo!

  8. madamab says:

At this point, I want Obama, McCain, Biden and Palin to make a joint commercial condemning this violence against women IN GENERAL TERMS. They are not acknowledging that it is becoming physically dangerous for women to express their political views publicly in this country.

  9. DancingOpossum says:

Didja hear that Obama is letting Jay-Z open up for him again, and that Jay-Z made a joke about his song “99 Problems” referring to the b**** “who says you betcha”? Feel the hope, Obmabots, feel the hope.

  10. Little Isis says:

Never again. This makes me so sick. I will never EVER EVER vote for Barack Obama EVER!!!!
The hatred he has inspired is beyond belief.

  11. Kiuku says:

Yea I was hoping you picked up on this latest one Violet.

This is not to leave out the noted Republican Anchor who was recently fatally stabbed in her apartment.

  12. Kiuku says:

But Little Isis didn’t you know he is going to unite us!!

This is what unity looks like.

  13. creeper says:

Amazingly, the freepers are all over the victim in Pittsburgh.

I found this on the KDKA website:
    http://kdka.com/local/alleged......47750.html

“Police said the woman, 20-year-old Ashley Todd, of College Station, Texas, refused medical attention. An officer saw the injury, but the police report did not describe its size or severity, a police spokeswoman said.”

They have to be joking. A woman reported a mugging and the police report does NOT include a description of the injury?

I don’t think it’s the victim who’s lying. Is it possible she was discouraged in some way from seeking medical attention initially? This thing stinks, but not for the reasons people are saying it does.

  14. Violet says:

The report is credible because of the year-long spree of misogyny Obama’s supporters have been on. There has been violence and threats of violence against women for months.

And isn’t it horrifying how quickly this has become normal? Isn’t it horrifying how many people, especially women, are going to ignore it and vote for Obama anyway? Hey, so what if women get threatened and beaten for expressing their political views?

  15. Aeryl says:

Not to detract from the 100% spot on observations about Obama’s connection to the misogyny seen this year, but Ashley Todd has admitted to inventing the story about the attack.

Truthiness poisons our entire discourse. It’s true that you cannot seperate Obama from his supporters, and the wave of inappropriate behavior they have spawned, and it is even more disgusting to see now that they are trying to rewrite history about the misogyny we’ve seen.

Here’s a good article. The article posted by Aeryl contains the same old lies about Sarah Palin. I’m sick of this fucking bullshit. — V

  16. CoolAunt says:

I can’t imagine anyone carving letters into their own faces for media attention and political gain. Did she give herself the black eye, too?

Is it possible she was discouraged in some way from seeking medical attention initially?

Maybe. Or perhaps, similar to the immediate reactions of many rape victims, she found herself surrounded by policeMEN after being brutally assaulted by a man and all she wanted to do was get the hell away from them and to her home, the place where she feels safest.

She said in the police report that she’d seek medical attention today, on her own. Maybe some reports confirming her injuries will be released today.

  17. CoolAunt says:

Aeryl and I posted at the same time. It looks like I could be wrong in defending Todd and her story.

  18. CoolAunt says:

Todd admits making the story up.

    http://kdka.com/local/attack.M.....47628.html

  19. Violet says:

Yeah, sounds like she’s a bit unhinged.

But still — the thing is, the story was believable precisely because Obamabots are so fucking crazy. Patsy has been getting death threats all year, most Hillary supporters I know get incredibly violent threats (including me), we’ve seen Obots go nuts and attack women, scream at them, etc. And the rhetoric of violence is non-stop and getting worse.

The Obama movement is fueled by pure hate. I have never seen such a disconnect between what something pretends to be (”hope and change” my ass) and what it really is. What I’m constantly reminded of is those batshit crazy Christian fundamentalists who bomb abortion clinics and cheer on torture, and still imagine that they’re practicing a religion of love.

  20. quixote says:

Happenstance, don’t give up. Your planet needs you. Seriously. There are too many left who understand that you can have truth and justice for all, or for none. Those are our only choices. (Another blog where that’s understood is Heidi Li’s Potpourri. If you want to broaden back out from one blog, you may want to check that out. ;-) )

  21. quixote says:

(Good grief. I even previewed that. It should say “There are NOT too many left …”)

  22. Annie Oakley says:

Kiuku, That woman died? Have the police released any more information about possible motives? If you have a link, I’d appreciate it. I googled “woman found stabbed apartment” and got 289,000 links … definitely not the right method to search for one of what is obviously too common a crime.

  23. Hazel Stone says:

  24. song says:

    Dear Dr. Socks,

Misogyny is not that far from rape and/ violent physical attack.

This is the reason I learned Martial Arts, Kung Fu and studied pressure points. I have seen too many women become the victims of attacks, and decided to learn how to fight my way out of any situation should it arise. It really doesn’t take much pressure to break a bone, or to disable an attacker, by hitting many vital points available. Since I have become proficient, I no longer feel fearful..and because I am not very tall, the Chinese martial art, is much more suitable..because it is not as linear as
say, Tae Kwan-do, or Karate. You get to learn animal forms..
And learn, how to attack different body types…I have also learned Tai Chi, for balance.

And I have learned to spar..against much larger opponents..

My life has changed. As a single woman I did not realize how
really afraid I had been, until I lived my first day without
that little brown mouse of fear that knaws at your insides sometimes when you don’t even know it…

This is not to imply that I am less aware..in fact more aware..

I decided at 48 years old, to do something about the victim programming. To unprogram myself. To toss aside the
victimization media inflicted imagery. To learn how to detect the predators..

Now I can do pushups on my fingertips. I have mastered the
nunchaku (a japanese weapon)..I always loved Bruce Lee when he would swing those sticks around…and Now I can! Ha!
Now Dr. Socks I have an inner peace…I can play my flute, and sing, and read poetry…and kick butt!!

I hope I never have to use my skills…but now instead of praying for myself, Dr. Socks..

    I pray for my opponent..

  25. soopermouse says:

of course, it’s not like she could ahve been harassed to change her story or anything, right? I’m not buying the “she is crazy and lied”, sorry

  26. samanthasmom says:

I’m not buying it either, soopermouse. There’s more to this story.

  27. Kiuku says:

Annie, it seems only fox news is covering it:

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,443926,00.html

The other girl may have “admitted” making the story up, but it also says she was interrogated for hours. And ..you know..I’d probably also say I made it up if the cops would leave me alone.

Did she punch herself in the eye too? lol

  28. Annie Oakley says:

    Thanks, Kiuku.

**Her family issued a statement Thursday saying that the 26-year-old was still in critical condition but was listed as stable.

“The swelling in her brain is beginning to subside,” the statement said. “Doctors are encouraged by her progress at this point.”**

It sounds like a hate crime to me. The woman was asleep in bed. There was no reason to do this to get her credit card.

Technical note on the so-called “art piece”:

Way too much scope on that rifle.

That looks like a Black Diamond 6 x 28 variable power scope which is more suited for a large-caliber sniper rifle that the smallbore rifle they have it mounted on.

You can almost see stuff in the next COUNTY with one of those things.

Good for you. My daughter studied Tae Kwan Do at a relatively early age and stayed with it as far as blue belt level.

I learned nunchaku long ago; haven’t picked ‘em up in years.

Talk about learning that provides feedback!

Seems like you always hit yourself in bony places when you miss…

There are certain things that I consider life skills- that you may never be called on to use but if you are, knowing them may Save Your Life.

A few other skills that come to mind are first aid, driving a stick shift and becoming familiar with the use of firearms– no 2A politicking here…I don’t care about anyone’s politics on the subject- just know how they work, how to tell if they’re loaded or not and how to load and unload ‘em.

I also cook and sew reasonably well and handle myself well in social situations.

It’s been reported that she’s a Ron Paulist and that she’s said she made it up.

I withhold comment becauese it’s just too weird.

Question: Exactly how does one do an “upside down B”?

I don’t get that one at all.
