Dear Violet,
Sixty is the magic number. If we reach 60 Democrats in the Senate, then the days of Republican obstruction are over. With Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the White House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.
Holy shit. Because this is what I expect Barack Obama to try to accomplish, based on his own campaign, statements, and actions:
1. Appoint more justices like John Roberts to the Supreme Court.
2. Appoint justices like the pro-torture, anti-Geneva Convention Cass Sunstein to the Supreme Court.
3. Continue the Cheney energy policy.
4. Go for liquid coal!
5. Expand faith-based initiatives.
6. Continue the Bush policy of government spying on citizens.
7. Endorse laws restricting women’s access to late-term abortions.
8. Bring extreme sexists like Larry Summers into his administration.
9. Pay his female staffers 75% of what he pays his male staffers.
10. Use the Justice Department and other government agencies to crack down on political dissenters.
11. Nurture a pseudo-religious Cult of Personality that makes it virtually an act of treason (or at least racism) to question or criticize him in any way.
12. Continue his takeover of the entire Democratic Party and all associated political organizations, so that the only access to funding and power is through him alone.
Gosh, that’s a quick dozen off the top of my head. What else?

“The more Obama tries to be Mr. Post-Partisan, the more he shifts the fulcrum right in the political see-saw. Neither McCain nor Obama are going to get abortion banned but Obama can change what it means to be pro-choice without asking anything of the right, who have no problem being ideologues. Lisa — great point. I would love to see more women employ-ERS as well as -EES. Women often choose small businesses because of enhanced flexibility, room for creativity and ability to get past glass ceilings. With venture capital predominantly going to male-leader-dominated industries, most woman-led small businesses are self-funded. Cutting them off at the knees as they move towards being able to employ others simply leads to a perpetuation of the status quo, in which women continue to predominantly work for men.

It is not just Obama who is going to do these things, it is the democratic party. It is the DNC who nominated Obama. He is their choice, and the reason I’m convinced is that they’ve all been bought by the same people.

- Undermine social services and programs while saying he supports them. Hand over funding for social programs to religious organisations.
- Continue to maintain troops in Iraq while saying that he will bring them back.
- Allow Muslims to follow Sharia law in the US while saying that this is about religious tolerance.
- Increase deregulation of mega corporations and concentration of wealth and power with the help of economic advisors like Rubin and Summers while taking about economic justice and entrepreneurial opportunity.
- Reduce the percentage and profile of women in cabinet positions and federal courts while talking about how women support him. Pay them less than men.
- Remove the teeth and spine from Hillary’s universal health care plan while pushing it as his version of universal health care (in name only).
- Further legitimate and normalize misogynistic songs and culture while high-fiving with Jay-Z.
- Bring back the retro 50′s view of women as being either trivial “sweeties” and “cuties”, sitting there looking cute and drinking tea or being bitches periodically feeling blue and attacking him with their claws out. -

Remember his statements in one of the debates? It didn’t go over too well in Pakistan where they had mass demonstrations/riots depending on which Asian paper you read. I guess they didn’t get the memo about the world loving Obama. Maybe he’ll manage to drag India into it so there can be a really big nuclear bloodbath.Maybe that’s the basis for the the Powell and Adelman endorsements. New and bigger wars for no reason at all. -
