Comment of the Day
My jaw dropped when I read that Obama’s text message announcement went out at 3am - 3am being the name of the Clinton ad that apparently really got under the Possum-in-Chief’s skin. Here he’s supposed to be riding the unity pony into Denver, and what does he do? Flips the bird to 18 million voters. Arrogant, immature, petty - we’ve had enough of that in the White House, thank you very much, we don’t need any more.
The 3am touch was pure possum.
But at least we know now that Obama’s movement will crumble. After all, the possums can’t possibly support Obama with Biden on the ticket, since Biden voted for the Iraq authorization and thus, like Hillary, is personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of Iraqi babies. Biden is also on record as saying that it was a “storybook” that our country should finally have a “clean,” “articulate” African-American running for President, remarks far more racist than anything actually uttered by any Hillary supporter during the primaries. I’m sure the possums will swarm Huffington Post and Daily Kos demanding that Biden be executed.

Heard from friends from New Zealand who were shocked that someone seeking such a high office would do anything so arrogant. They assumed that he was trying to reach the younger voters with this action, to show he was “with it,” but they saw it as a childish gesture, unworthy of someone who wants to be taken seriously as President of the US. They didn’t know about the 3 a.m. ad, or the slam to Hillary and supporters.
He finds new ways to insult us and the country’s traditions every day!

Dubya’s handlers got him to tone down the worst of his petty vindictiveness while he was running in 2000. Obama parades it as something to be proud of. And this is the guy whose supposed to protect and defend the Constitution?
The way I see it, we have two sexist, homophobic, elitist, corporatist, wilfully clueless jerks running for “leader of the free world.” That one is younger and sort of black is no qualitative difference.

I think actually it’s important that we not get carried away and call Biden’s statement “racist” or we lose credibility in pointing out the exaggerations in calling all the other things various people said “racist”.
Sure, his words are a heck of a lot more easily characterized that way, but really if you give him the benefit of the doubt he was just pointing out a perspective that will be seen by a lot of voters. And calling him a racist, when he is Obama’s choice, is just going to look like making the same extremist assumptions we see in the Obama camp. There’s a time to forgive relatively small misstatements, and this is one of them.
And no Obama supporters are going to swarm anywhere. Most of them are still in the “accept anything the messiah says” camp. I’ve been reading their sites, and most of them think he’s just peachy.
His poll numbers are dropping fast — we have plenty to go on. Pointing out how they accepted and forgave his comments, and yet blew up far smaller issues by Clinton party members, is the more realistic way to go. “Biden isn’t a racist and neither were …” is the correct approach.

Unless of course the possums don’t actually care about those issues and used them as a smokescreen for their misogyny?

Biden brings experience to the campaign that said experience doesn’t matter.
Cognitive dissonance, thy name is Obot.

Cognitive Dissonance,
indeed!
The man who waxed about his stand against war, promised new era of hope, came in as an outsider, and courted youth vote and dismissed the old folk, now suddenly picks a guy who voted for war, is the ultimate insider, a virtual beltway fixture. Even chameleons have limits for camouflage, and I see a dozen negative ads in this one 3 am wrong call out.
“Biden isn’t a racist and neither were …” is the correct approach.
Excellent point RWR. So constructive!

I’ve already seen a passel of possums claim that the campaign only sent the text message that early because of the news leak; alternatively, they claim it wasn’t sent out at 3am at all, and thinking it was is just “paranoid.” So, should you encounter any of these sneaky little varmints yourselves, here’s the backup:
“At about 3 a.m., Obama headquarters dispatched the message, which named Sen. Joseph Biden. It was relayed through servers at Distributive Networks’ office to phone companies, and from there to cellphones across the U.S. “I’m not sure if that was the optimum time,” said Mr. Bertram. “But that’s when the campaign decided to send it.”
["Mr. Bertram is chief executive of Distributive Networks, a Washington, D.C.-based mobile technology firm the campaign hired to send out its text messages -- including the one it had said it would use to break the news of Sen. Obama's vice-presidential selection."]

But don’t you know that it’s just a coincidence the text message went out at 3:00 a.m…..well, at least that’s what a obamabot on my blog says.

Violet, everyone - check out this CNN poll/article:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITI.....index.html
“Sixty-six percent of Clinton supporters — registered Democrats who want Clinton as the nominee — are now backing Obama. That’s down from 75 percent in the end of June. Twenty-seven percent of them now say they’ll support McCain, up from 16 percent in late June.
“The number of Clinton Democrats who say they would vote for McCain has gone up 11 points since June, enough to account for most, although not all, of the support McCain has gained in that time,” Holland said. ”

PZ says:
Well, the Iraq authorization vote is a big issue for me. Yet McCain really is medieval and I think it is really important to remember this. Obama has always been a centrist. I wanted to vote for Kucinich. Now I am voting against McCain.

My jaw dropped too. Apparantly Obama’s as much of a rude, petty, sore-winner as his fanclub.
Oh, and don’t count on the faithful applying their stated logic for opposing HRC to Joe Biden. “Joe Biden brings experience to the ticket!” Their hypocrisy is astounding.
