Welcome, Operation Code Blue!

By Violet Socks · Friday, May 16th, 2008 ·

From HillBuzz, the exciting news we’ve all been waiting for!

Apparently, according to FOX News, the Obama campaign has hired 400 bloggers to influence the public discourse and sway Hillary voters to “remember we are all Democrats”, to give up Clinton’s cause, and to become dutiful citizens of the Obama Nation.

Also, it’s been noted by several HillBuzz readers, that Obama volunteers are being told to ratchet down the anti-Hillary hate, because someone in the campaign realizes Hillary Clinton supporters are not very likely to support Obama if he becomes the nominee.

Okay, I lied. I’m not really welcoming Axelrod’s latest cadre of paid “opinion shapers.” I’ll just be handing out these convenient laminated Pocket Guides (note the blue section) and gently shutting the door in their faces:

What’s that? We’re all Democrats? Oh, that’s nice. Okay, you have a nice day, you hear? Bye-bye! Thanks so much! Bye! Mm, you too! Bye! Thanks again! Okay, bye now! Bye!

  1. Denise says:

Very clever, and sadly, accurate. I know one vote and one voice doesn’t matter to the DNC, but my one vote will go to McCain if Obama is the nominee. I would vote for anyone besides Obama.

  2. Mary Tracy9 says:

“the Obama campaign has hired 400 bloggers to influence the public discourse”

Is this true? ‘Cuz if it is, it’s fooking unbelievable!

  3. Violet says:

I believe it. After all, it’s not like this would be the first time. David Axelrod is the king of astro-turfing, which is a big part of the reason that Obama is where he is today. The kiddos, you know. They’ve all been conned by a bunch of paid bloggers and MySpace plants and the poor kiddos actually think it’s a grassroots movement.

  4. Stephanie says:

I don’t think that voting for McCain is a realistic option, at least for me. I used to be undecided, they both, Obama and Clinton, were too centrist/rightist, not progressive enough. But I’ve become dismayed at the attitude of inevitablity around Obama, when primary voting is still going on and MI/FL not counted. Dismayed also, by his lack of leadership in the Senate, as he is my senator. (he’s a committee head, and has not called his committee to meet while he’s been head).

Also dismayed at the sexist bs hurled at Clinton. And tho neither of them is progressive enough for me, I think Clinton is more progressive on domestic issues, like health care, if not a problem for myself, a problem for people I love.

If Obama does not get the Dem nomination this year, and runs again for Senate in Illinois in 2010, I will vote for whoever runs against him, possibly even repub. He has not been in the senate long enough to take such a long break from his day job to run for more power/responsibility, in my opinion.
Tho I liked him cuz he’s young and my senator — and his speech at the 2004 dem convention was very good, tho probably it was good in contrast to what we’ve become accustomed to in our current president — and I’m a 56 yr old woman, I have changed my mind for the above reasons and others.

If Obama is on the ticket in November, I cannot and will not vote FOR McCain, but I can not vote for Obama, the way things look now.

Perhaps there will be a third party on the ballot in my state — another way to express my disapproval; otherwise, I will just vote for the down ticket candidates.

I know that forever we have been voting for the lesser of 2 evils. I think it might be time to stop that. If you don’t approve of McCain, don’t vote for him either. I think it might be the principled thing to do. But who am I to say? I only have one vote.

  5. Anna Belle says:

Ha! As if! I might have come there on my own had the word gone out simply to tone down the rhetoric. The time before November is long, and without assholes in my face, I might have quietly resigned myself. Probably not, but that was their best chance. But if they’re going to pay people to try to get my vote, well eff off even more. I’m not of that demographic. I’m a gen-xer, and we hate hype, and we hate marketing.

I won’t vote for McCain, but I’ll vote “present” by voting down-ticket races only. And I’ll encourage as many people to follow me as I can.

  6. Maria says:

I hope it isnt true that they would wage full blown war within their own party.

  7. No Blood for Hubris says:

Say, doesn’t that look just like the Wheel of Abuse? Except it doesn’t even HAVE a honeymoon period.

  8. Maria says:

Why wasnt my comment made public :( ?

  9. PJ says:

There is nothing at this point that Obama could do to pry my vote out of my dead hands. After his abuse of her and the “you are likable enough, Hillary” comment that ended it for me. Calling the Clinton’s racists, two people who have devoted their years of public service to assist all groups is disgusting. No way will I vote for this huckster so they are wasting precious time.

Those ignorant trolls they send out to convince us otherwise are a blot on their campaign. I want nothing to do with a campaign that aims to steal this election. Forget it.

  10. Violet says:

Why wasnt my comment made public :( ?

Just because I hadn’t gotten to the moderation queue yet. And now I have!

  11. Linda C. says:

I am liberal and a Senator Clinton supporter. This is the first time in 30 years that I am unable to vote for Obama if he is the nominee. I can’t bring myself to do it.

If Senator Clinton is not the nominee, | will fight for electing democratics down ticket. Senator Obama will have to figure out his own way.

  12. GothicHippy says:

    My obamabot sense is tingling

  13. Keri says:

So where are those so called “make nice” paid Obama bloggers? They aren’t on Huffington Post or MyDD, etc… it’s still the same old misogynist trolls as always. I wouldn’t mind if these so called “make nice” bloggers would shut up the misognyist Obama bloggers…

  14. Violet says:

Most of them are in my moderation queue. Suffice it to say they’re not very good. One of them tonight actually challenged me to deny that I’m being paid by Hillary! (Because all campaigns have paid astro-turfers, right?)

  15. ginmar says:

What do the Obamabots say in private if this is the way they act in public? What’s Obama like?

He’s not getting my vote. I’ve had it.

  16. Gayle says:

    Violet,

They accuse Alegre over at My DD of that everyday! I don’t know who they think they’re influencing with that stupidity.

They’re talking to each other at this point.
