Women’s boycott of Obama percolates up to the mainstream media

By Violet Socks · Thursday, May 15th, 2008 ·

I am woman, hear me roar.

ABC’s Political Punch reports on “female supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton who are angry — at the Democratic Party, at the Obama campaign, or at the general situation that sees their candidate facing tough times, in their view, in part because of sexism.”

I’m glad our collective voices are starting to make an impact. But the amazing thing is that the guest blogger behind this piece, Rick Stein, talks about the whole phenomenon like it’s something through the Hubble Telescope that’s so far away and vague and weird that nobody can be sure what the hell it is. Dig it:

I confess to being a man who has not always seen what his female friends and colleagues see as sexist in this race. What do you think? Has Sen. Clinton faced particular (unfair) challenges because of her gender? More than Sen. Obama has faced because of his race?

Is it humanly possible to be that oblivious? I mean, if Stein were a tree sloth or something, sure. Tree sloths sleep a lot and I get the impression they’re not all that plugged in to the news. But how can any sentient non-tree-sloth American be this clueless? We’re talking Hillary Nutcrackers, people. “Iron my shirt.” An anti-Hillary 501c called C.U.N.T. Another one called “Stop running for President and make me a sandwich.”

Maybe Rick needs to read this: Why I will not vote for Obama even if he’s the nominee — and why you shouldn’t either. Or check out Shakespeare’s Sister’s Hillary Sexism Watch (which has ninety entries at this point, yes, ninety, count ‘em, ninety). Or read Marie Coco’s A Farewell to the ‘Hillary Nutcracker’ and Other Obscenities. Or wade through this handy summary by Erica Barnett:

Hillary Clinton is a bitch. A big ol’ bitchy bitch. And a cunt. A “big fucking whore.” Fortunately, you can “call a woman anything.” She’s “Nurse Ratched.” She’ll castrate you if she gets a chance. She would like that. She’s a “She-Devil.” She’s a madam, and her daughter’s a whore. She’s frigid, and she can’t give head. She’s a “She-Devil.” A lesbian. A nag. When things get tough, she cries like a big dumb GIRL. In fact, she’s just that — a “little girl.” In FACT, she wants to “cry her way to the White House.” To be, ahem, “Crybaby-in-Chief.” That proves that she’s not tough enough. But she’s also not feminine enough. She’s “screechy.” She’s an “aging, resentful female.” She’s “Sister Frigidaire.” She really ought to quit running for President and stick to housework. She basically spent her entire time as First Lady going to tea parties. She’s a monster who just won’t die. In fact, she really should just die. You can buy a urinal target with her face on it to express what you really think of her. OMG she’s got claws! She’s crazy. In fact, she’s a lunatic. She’s petty and vindictive and entitled. She’s a washed-up old hag. She’s “everybody’s first wife standing outside probate court.” She’s a “scolding mother.” She’s shrillshrillshrill. She can’t take it when people are mean to her. She’s a “hellish housewife.” She’s Tanya Harding. She CAN’T be President, what with the mood swings and the menses. Any woman who votes for her is voting with her vagina, not her brain. Women only like Hillary because she’s a fellow Vagina-American. And because they vote with their feelings. Frankly, anyone who still thinks we need “feminine role models” should get over it and move on, already. Oh, and men who support her are castratos in the eunuch chorus. You shouldn’t make her President because she wants it too much. She’s totally just banking on support from ugly old feminists. And she looooves to “play the victim.” She cackles! And cackles. And cackles. It’s like she’s a witch or something! She’s definitely “witchy.” And now you can buy her cackle as your ring tone. Her voice, too, is “grating”–like “fingernails on a blackboard” to “some men.” She’s hiding behind her gender. She isn’t a “convincing mom” because she’s too strident. She never did anything on her own. Her husband keeps her on a leash. She hates men. Her campaign is a “catfight.” She makes people want to kill themselves, is like a “domineering mother,” and is cold. And OMG she has boobies! All of which are reasons to hate her. (And boy, could I go on.)

Oh, and if you even mention any of this, you’re either silly or a bad person.

Actually, none of that would probably help Tree Sloth Rick. I suspect he’s like the Obamabots who read all that stuff and still clog up my moderation queue with inane comments about how sexism doesn’t exist, how there hasn’t been any misogyny in this campaign, etc., etc.. No idea what we’re talking about. Hubble Telescope. Mysterious smudges of light.

Barnett’s summary is like spending 5 minutes on Americablog.

There is only one thing I would NOT do for Hillary Clinton, even if she begged me. And that, of course, is to vote for Barack Obama.

  2. myiq2xu says:

As a semi-civilized politically incorrect male DFH, I confess I was unaware of the amount of misogyny in this country until this election campaign.

While I don’t agree with Melissa McEwan on every example (I think some are just plain old Clinton hatred) I agree with her on most of them.

It sometimes makes me ashamed to have a penis.

  3. Arabella Williamson says:

I want to contact the HCFP women because I agree with them. Can anyone tell me how to contact them?

How can I volunteer for Hillary Voters Count Too?
Can we get a million woman march organized by May 31 in D.C. when the DNC is convening?
Please tell me what I can do.
This misogyny is mindboggling and depressing.
“Sweetie?” and the male press thinks it is nothing? but if Hilary had called a black journalist ‘boy’ there would be hell to pay.
Point me to the HCFP people.
I will NEVER vote for Obama or any of the dems who have dissed Hillary during this campaign.
    GO HILLARY!

  6. Katie says:

There are plenty of women and men who are sickened by the treatment Hillary has recieved by the media. MSNBC for one has seen fit to belittle Hillary and glorify Obama. Not to mention the Elders in the Democratic Party, both women (Donna Bezille) and men. I saw it stated they did not need Hillary Clinton supporters for Obama to win. They had the college students and the AA crowd… Good luck with that plan. If we are so undervalued, I say, Switch your Party on June 4th through the 14th and vote McCain!

    Unbelievable.

That’s a great set of data points. I needed one on ageism for my most recent post and snagged one of them — many thanks.

My friend is in a Hillary/Obama marriage (she’s for Hill, natch, and is quite active in her campaign). I have no idea how she does it.

  8. Susan Mayhew says:

What’s wonderful in it’s irony is that I just tried to post on ‘Political Punch’ which included some of the slurs that mainstream programs have allowed.
My posting was rejected because it ‘might be spam’!!! This was ABC …where are our resources anymore????
Obama could be the only one running and I’d stay home.

  9. YAB says:

Yea, I read Stein’s last paragraph and wondered if he was just another Obamanut(it was a guest post) or had been living in a cave for the past 5 months. I wanted to send him an email with the POCKET GUIDE, but my browser froze 3 times before I gave up looking for it.

And does anybody have Axelrod’s email? I’d sure love to send him the Guide, too.

  10. Katie says:

I can’t seem to get the email address to work for HCFPinPA@gmail.com…Is it only me?

  11. donna darko says:

    This is really a movement!

  12. Maria says:

I bet they wont even aknowledge the sexism that caused the divide.

  13. Linda C. says:

It is the sexism. It is McClurkin and Meeks,It is the race baiting.Rural people are racists and cling to god and guns. People who vote for Hillary are uneducated hicks and racists.. Is there anyone that hasn’t been ticked off yet by Mr. Unity? Then there are his nasty supporters just throwing gasoline on the fire.

The only thing that Obama has unified is all of the people that are under the bus.

  14. mary lagos says:

count on me to help hillary win. this sexism has to stop. we need to form a million womans march.we need to boycott the news stations and advertisers. Money talk and they will listen. we need to do something fast.

MESSAGE FROM “CLINTON SUPPORTERS COUNT TOO”

Your responses are pouring in and have filled our inboxes in all states. We are moving rapidly and will have a website up soon, and are trying to respond to your emails as quickly as possible. Please pass this information on to everyone you can.

Here’s what we need to do.

Make calls to OR and KY. We will have another stunning victory in KY and close the gap in OR. We believe the opposition will announce that he has won the nomination on May 20th after the polls close. It will not be believable when Hillary is announcing a HUGE VICTORY IN KY.

    Read the rest here.

Katie, I read somewhere else that HCFP is getting flooded with emails, and the organizers can’t keep up with them at the moment (rumor is they are working on a website to promote their protest/project, so stay tuned).

It’s possible that their gmail mailbox is full. Have you tried emailing the other email addresses? (Might be good to try one email at a time, and wait for a response, so their other inboxes don’t get full too).

  17. Katie says:

Minina, Thank you…I found the problem to be they were having difficulty. I did get my email through.
I found another website that is asking for comments with a poll also
    http://www.alessandromachi.blogspot.com/
The more places we can voice our displeasure the better.

  18. Alessandro Machi says:

I think the racism issue was brought up to deflect attention away from the caucus cheating that went on by the Barack Obama side, with the added bonus of driving black voters away from the Clintons.

Isn’t it pretty obvious that Hillary had the Black vote, the Hispanic Vote, the over 45 vote locked up? Even others still outside of those demographics feel the 90’s were prosperous with Bill Clinton was president. That is a pretty huge cross section of the country to have in one’s corner, so the racism issue has caused the black vote to go to Obama in record numbers while also deflecting any substantive discussion of the cheating that went on in the caucus state votes, until now.

I have started a second blog/website called http://www.CaucusRebellion.com to flush out the minimium of 150 delegates that Barack Obama has stolen via the caucus elections.
