NBC doesn’t want Hillary to be President either

By The Ghost of Violet · Monday, February 25th, 2008 ·

Jesus, I hate it when these filthy rich megamediacorporacrats pull videos from YouTube. Copyright, schmopyright. Bite me.

EDITED FOR CLARITY: Anyway, it’s no longer possible to see the YouTube clip for the [fabulous pro-Hillary] “Bitch Is The New Black” thing by Tina Fey on SNL [because evil NBC keeps pulling the goddamn video], but here’s a partial transcript from MyDD:

FEY: And finally, the most important Women’s News item there is, we have our first serious female presidential candidate in Hillary Clinton.

And yet, women have come so far as feminists, that they don’t feel obligated to vote for a candidate just because she’s a woman.

Women today feel perfectly free to make whatever choice Oprah tells them to.

Which raises the question, why are people abandoning Hillary for Obama?

Some say that they’re put off by the fact that Hillary can’t control her husband, and that we would end up with co-presidents.

‘Cause that would be terrible, having two intelligent, qualified people working together to solve problems. Ugh.

Why would you let Starsky talk to Hutch? I wanna watch that show, Starsky.

You know, what is it, America? What is it, are you weirded out that they’re married?

‘Cause I can promise you that they are having exactly as much sex with each other as George Bush and Jeb Bush are.

Then there is the physical scrutiny of her physical appearance.

Rush Limbaugh, the Jeff Conaway of right wing radio, said that he doesn’t think America is ready to watch their president quote “turn into an old lady in front of them.” Really?

They didn’t seem to mind when Ronald Reagan did that.

Maybe what bothers me the most is that people say that Hillary is a bitch.

Let me say something about that: Yeah, she is.

And so am I and so is this one. (pointing to Amy Poehler)

POEHLER: Yeah, deal with it.

FEY: Know what? Bitches get stuff done.

(Amy says yeah and starts nodding her head, together they get in a rhythm, with Amy saying in response, more yeahs, uh huhs, with a ‘you go girl’ style)

Like back in grammar school,

they could have had priests teaching you but, no,

they had those tough old nuns who slept on cots

and who could hit ya and you HATED those bitches

But at the end of the school year

you sure KNEW the capital of Vermont!

So COME ON Texas and Ohio

Get on board, it’s not too late!…

BITCH IS THE NEW BLACK!

I’d also love to see the skit where they mocked the media’s flagrant pro-Obama bias, but that, too, has been withdrawn from YouTube.

I want NBC to die.

NBC hates the Clintons. Someone posted new clips at YouTube tonight, so I replaced the dead one at my blog, and I’m going to keep doing that as long as the new ones go up, right on up til March 4th!

I found a new one of the Media bias or CNN Debate skit too.

Yes, but women referring to themselves and other women as “bitches” is teh funny! It’s empowerfulling to “take back” a derogatory term and use it as a compliment.

But they should have said, “Bitch is the new PINK!”

  4. julia says:

Boycott NBC! Do not support their advertisers! Call and e-mail all of your women friends and ask them to join you!
We have power as consumers- let’s use it.
I’m starting my phone calls right now.

    Hi Violet,

Tina Fey’s “Women’s News” and a somewhat shortened version of the Debate segment are on NBC’s website. I’m posting the whole link as I’m in a rush and I’m slow with the HTML. Sorry for being so untidy!

  6. Gayle says:

Grrr. That’s odd. You have to cut and paste the whole thing into your browser to make it work.

  7. Violet says:

Thanks for the new links, people.

Tinfoil Hattie, I gotta say this is one of the few times I actually think “reclaiming” is the right choice. Normally “reclaiming” is just feminism by fiat, as if by sewing a new label in the bunny suit we can make it — hey! presto! — empowerfuling.

But in this case, given the venue, the audience, the level (low) at which the message needs to be pitched, I think it works. And actually does a clever job of throwing in men’s faces exactly what they’re so afraid of.

  8. Jumptees says:

That was awesome. If Hillary is smart, she’ll embrace this.

This was so funny, I made a “Bitch is the next Black” t-shirt

not strictly on-thread but maybe on-theme. imagine my surprise when, following her vicious unprovoked attack on senator obama, hilary is christened ’shrillary’. do we know if the british media came up with this all by themselves or was it in the us media too?

  10. blondie says:

Of course, women just have no sense of humor. When you mock a female candidate by calling her shrill, that’s not sexist. It’s funny. Hilarious. Co me dy. Plus, I’m sure people call male candidates shrill all the time. Oh right, male voices aren’t shrill; so that wouldn’t make sense. It’s just women who have shrill voices. And they’re too emotional, at least periodically, when they’re feeling down.

It’s driven home more and more all the time — you really can say anything about a woman.

The British media seem to have been parotting most of the US anti-Hillary pro-Obama stuff without any real question or analysis.

It suits them just fine. A pretense at liberalism/post-racism - yet retaining the gleeful misogny.

Also her voice is a perfectly nice voice. I always wonder if I’m missing something. Does she have some dreadful dialect heard only by American ears, or what ?

Nope. Nothing unusual about her voice or speech at all.

  13. Apostate says:

Hm, maybe I’m missing something — this transcript that you posted comes across as Hillary-positive to me.

Yes, it is pro-Hillary! I hate NBC because they keep pulling the video. This thing started to go viral and NBC just yanked it.

  15. simply wondered says:

actually, given the generally open right-wing biaas (to my ears anyway) of the UK press, a little ‘pretense at liberalism/post-racism’ might be a nice change…

  16. Lilo says:

I wish I could vote for Hillary, and Tina Fey reminded me why. I’m a Barack fan, but the CNN debate skit was so dead on. SNL’s getting back to what it should be!

So, of course, Gods forbid that people get to talking about it and pass on the best clips to each other and *watch* it again, advertising it for free…

I wasn’t thinking about the Daily Hate and similar proudly bigotted slime.

I mean those who do fancy themselves as lefty intellectual - C4 news, Newsnight, the Independent. Or even the ones that reckon to be neutral, the BBC (TV and radio), assorted “celeb” talking heads, the average public audience.

People who would be most offended at being racist or homophobic(against gay *men*), but will happily go wholesale for misogyny.

  19. simply wondered says:

sadly most of it still sounds right wing to me.

i do take your point, though, about the casual misogyny even on the left who really should do better.

  20. Max says:

So sexism is wrong, but racism is OK, so long as it’s used by feminists to denounce sexism?

    Sorry, but I call shenanigans.

    Stick test: flunked.

    You’re on the wrong blog.
