Gen. Petraeus and Baghdad Bob: Separated at birth

By The Ghost of Violet · Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 ·

From Glenn Greenwald:

From Monty Python:

Sing it with me, Gen. Petraeus!

Some things in life are bad, they can really make you mad
Other things can make you swear and curse
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle, don’t grumble — give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best, and…

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life

If life seems jolly rotten, there’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you’re feeling in the dumps, don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that’s the thing, and…

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life

For life is quite absurd, and death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin, give the audience a grin
Enjoy it — it’s your last chance anyhow, so…

Always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke it’s true
You can see it’s all a show, keep ‘em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you, and…

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life…

Question to General: If we leave, come back, and leave again, then what will happen?

Question to General: If we put indiscreet locators on 800,000 AK47s and distribute them to various combatants, could we then wait for unauthorized concentrations of AK47s and kick their ass?

Progress in Iraq is almost breathtaking. The surge is working, and Iraqi leaders are increasingly stepping forward to shoulder the burden. But while Victory is inevitable, there is still much work to be done. So we must stay longer.

Iraqi Freedom- what you get when you get rid of Saddam Hussein. Looting the palaces after years of oppression.
Who is Iraq? When we(UnitedStates) partner with Iraq(???), who is Iraq?
The UnitedStates fights for the Iraqis, who do we fight? Iraqis?
Bush said happily we are killing 2,200 insurgents and terrorists a month in Iraq. Who are their Mothers, Brothers, Sisters, Children, Husbands, Wives? How many more will be emboldened by the Bush method?? Are they Iraqi?
Who are the insurgents? Dead enders? Alquida? How do you spell Al Quida? There is Anbar province- Roads? Forest? Farmland? or just desserts? How many soldiers per intersection in Baghdad?
Was AlQuida a threat to Saddam? Not for long. Was there sectarian violence under Saddam? Not for long. How many militias did the UnitedStates have to deal with when Saddam was in charge? One? Because Saddam was in charge. We won’t stop until someone is in charge. Someone we accept. Someone we have to prop up. Saddam rose to the top in the Iraqi environment because…it takes that kind of leadership, ruthlessness, and evil to be in charge. A democrat wouldn’t last a day. A Ceasar! An Alexander! An Iraqi Petraeus! A hope, a prayer.
200,000 American troops on a hope. If Iraq were certain sucess, we’d have to apply such successful tactics to LosAngeles and NewOrleans. But it does kind of sound promising that a rebuilt and democratic Iraq with all their goodwill towards America and cleansed of any trace of terrorists that would attack America and partnering to be a bulwark against the evil Iranian and Syrian empires, shining out and looked at enviably by all of the middle east(rising music: “Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies…”) spreading the flower of our American liberty and freedom o’r the fruited plain and on past the plain to the cities and suburbs of neighboring countries to the little people, the masses yearning to breath the free air, shedding their yoke of oppression under the cruel dictatorships and vile theocracys- the bright side of life.
