Top-Secret Communiqué from Downing Street to the White House

Could somebody please muzzle President Asshat? And his friend, Captain Kangaroo?

From the Globe and Mail:

The Iranian prisoner crisis revealed a widening schism between Britain and the United States Sunday as U.S. leaders called for tough action and British officials confirmed that they are trying to free their 15 imprisoned sailors by quietly reaching a compromise with Tehran…

But Britain’s delicate diplomatic efforts were set back by U.S. President George W. Bush, who made a statement Saturday in which he characterized the imprisoned sailors as “hostages” — a phrase that Britain has been carefully avoiding to prevent the crisis from becoming a broader political or military conflict…

Other U.S. officials have been even less amenable to the British approach. John Bolton, who until recently was Mr. Bush’s ambassador to the United Nations, has appeared on British TV describing the British approach as “pathetic.”

You know, every time Captain Kangaroo opens his mouth I find myself puzzling again over the fact that he’s no longer at the U.N. Why? Such diplomatic talent, such a silver tongue! That’s the problem with our government right there, that we’re not using brilliant people like Kangaroo where they could really do some good.

Yep. And it looks like that dickhead in the White House may have created the situation. Please will someone lock him up for everyone’s safety?

  2. Flash says:

    Forgot to say why -
The botched raid that led to the hostage crisis

I saw Bolton on the Daily Show. Jon treated him with more respect than I would have, but Jon’s a grown man who’s been doing this since before I was born.

Anyway, the guy’s crackers. A man that hates the UN is our UN ambassador. Great.

Oh well – an anti-choice, anti-BC man is in charge of health, and former oil and logging people are in charge of regulating those businesses.

    Sick fucks.

If we limit a corporations right to rape the earth, we’ll be taking away the guns next! Or something. *eyeroll*

On a side note, I’d love to work for the UN – I adore languages, though I don’t think a southern tinged ‘continental’ (military) accent is perfect. At least I don’t sound as country as my uncle… or my sister, when she wants to. In Nebraska, “Ya’ll don’t have swee-ate tay?”

I think Blair wants his troops the fuck out of the middle east, as soon as possible.

He’s worried his good buddy Bush will do something to piss of Iran, and he wants out.

    But don’t forget Poland!

Who is in the ‘coalition of the willing’ now?

I just read a long way gone by Ishmael Beah.

Even though it was about the war in Sierra Leone, I saw too many similarities to today. In our own soldiers, and in the insurgents and the child soldiers and what can lead one to it.

But unlike Ishmael and the others, the child soldiers in Iraq won’t be rescued by the UN and told “It’s not your fault.”

Once again the token conservative (me) chimes in (ducks at cabbage is throw my way).

Bolton does not hate the U.N., he does however see that it is a corrupt and ineffectual group of thugs who are more interested in graft, nepotism, and covering their asses than doing anything.

Look at how those U.N. blue helmets were on a mission of mercy in Africa wherein they would only give food to starving people if the village leaders gave them young teen girls (and some PREteen girls) for thier sexual gratification. This is who you want to turn to for help!?

    Now, as to this:
“Yep. And it looks like that dickhead in the White House may have created the situation.”

Ummm, I don’t think so. The first hostage crisis was on Jimmy Carter’s watch, not “W”‘s.

The reason Iran takes hostages is because it keeps working for them.

Those on the left cry that “we made this happen” and it’s silly. If someone breaks into your home or if they car jack you – is that YOUR fault? No. Iran does this because they see that we are divided in the west and they will stoop to any level to gain leverage so they can continue to develop nuclear weapons. And their president has clearly stated he wants to use those weapons to destroy Israel and then the U.S.

It boggles the mind how some people cannot realize that another person’s fanatical, death worshiping, murderous interpretation of religion is NOT our fault.

The Arab world has a centuries long tradition of taking hostages and often murdering innocent people to gurther their agendas. Hell, so does our civilization not to many years agao. What? When we do it we are evil imperialistic oppressors, but when they do it it’s “different”???? How is that exactly?

    Give it some thought.

    Steven

It also boggles the mind how conservatives can have such a shallow grasp of global affairs that they don’t understand that fundamentalism is a reactionary response to political and social stress.

Steven, you’ve done an excellent job of being the token conservative, illustrating clearly for us the poverty and gullibility of right-wing thought. Now, however, I really wish you’d go the fuck away. If I wanted to read Free Republic, I would.

Help me here … i assume from other things he writes that he doesn’t mean christianity … then i get a bit lost.
