I fucking love The Editors

By Violet Socks · Wednesday, May 10th, 2006 ·

I’m going to have every word of this post tattooed on my body. Then I’m going to figure out where Andrew lives and go have sex with him.

    Why are you always trying to put words in my mouth?

    Sorry, couldnt resist a bad reference to a bad joke.

    It was an excellent post.

    Also, if anyone doesnt read Glenn Greenwald’s blog, you should. It is excellent.

    Extremely well written post (thank you Dr. Violet Socks for the link). But Aretino (at comment 35) is dead right and The Editors’ thesis, however marvelously crafted, is dead wrong. These people “are” conservatives, and must die with the discredited political philosophy of conservatism.

    Thomas Jefferson nailed this at the beginning of our own experiment in governance. If we haven’t learned this truth yet, we will simply lose again.

    ~~~
    Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties:
    1. Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes.
    2. Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depository of
    the public interests.
    In every country these two parties exist, and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves. Call them, therefore, Liberals and Serviles, Jacobins and Ultras, Whigs and Tories, Republicans and Federalists, Aristocrats and Democrats, or
    by whatever name you please, they are the same parties still, and pursue the same object.
    The last appellation of Aristocrats and Democrats is the true one expressing the essence of all.
    Thomas Jefferson
    More simply, we will either have a government “of the people,” or we will have a government “of the propertied interests.”
    The choice has always been between People or Property.
    As a proud liberal and life-long Democrat, I choose the people.
    It was the first thing I read today before going to cover a House committee appropriations meeting, which is my job when the Texas legislature is in session. I find I need snark fortification more and more before heading out the door. This was wonderful, I am so grateful for the blogosphere; thanks for pointing.
