Right on schedule
Steps to war:
1. Identify the target nation as “evil”: check!
2. Accuse target nation of harboring terrorists: check!
3. Announce that target nation has capability of creating dreadful weapons: check!
4. Warn that the U.N.’s credibility is at stake unless it acts to restrict target nation: check!
Next we’ll have an insistence on time limits and inspectors, failures to cooperate, more sabre-rattling, more dire warnings that the U.N.’s credibility is at stake — then we’ll start bombing.
On one level you have to kind of admire the sheer chutzpah of this administration. It is astonishing that Condi can deliver this tripe with a straight face just three years after that other war with those other dire warnings that the U.N.’s credibility was at stake. Remember that? Yeah, well, somebody’s credibility was shot to shit three years ago, and it wasn’t the U.N.’s.

You forgot two steps Vi:
5) Continue to bitch and moan about the loss of credibility of UN and their inaction at the same time that you are refusing to pay your overdue dues to actually insure that the UN can do anything.
6) Finally pay your dues and get UN to do what you want. Then after they have caved in to your pressure and done what you want , start again to refuse to pay your dues.

With whose army? Ours is getting a tad tired.

Maybe we’ll just bomb them this time, foilwoman. Or maybe the whole wag-the-dog war talk will remain just that, talk, with the objective being to induce yellow-ribbon-wearing ‘Murkins to once again rally around President Jesus. We can only hope.

I work and work to make this a serious blog. I try to moderate Violet and Alon, and God knows it’s a chore, even with CR’s help.
But I draw the line at Captain whack-a-mole.

Violet says:
You’re moderating the blog now? Great. I need to spend a couple of days planting my roses. See if you can do something about the spam, will you?
-
Paul Tergeist says:
HA! I won’t have my good name rolled in the mud by being caught moderating a feminist blog!
Anyway, I have to plant my tomatoes and get the lilikoi on the trellis….or is it a pergola or a sukkah? Or an arbor? Do you know I have orchids growing wild in the yard? I have to use the weed-whacker on them or they would take over. Sometimes I just pick a bunch and use them in a salad. Orchids are as good to eat as rose petals.

I think the plan is to force Iran into escalating cross-border activities in Iran and Afghanistan, then use the forces we have there to invade Iran.
The foreign policy apparatus is composed completely of people who don’t believe that bombing alone ever works. That’s still part of our military doctrine, despite the example of Serbia.
Some may think that a second Iranian Revolution is just waiting for a spark, like getting bombed by the US. But I have to think that most are convinced that regime change will require either an invasion or a nuclear strike.
It may sound like madness to leave Iraq and Afghanistan virtually unattended, but remember that these are the people who believe that most of the problems with the insurgencies can be traced to Iran. This is their way of winning the war.
Iran would surely be overrun quickly, but then we’d be left occupying an region that stretches from the western tip of Iraq to the eastern tip of Afghanistan. And we’d get no help.
I think the area to be occupied is about half the size of west Europe.
And I thought that the UN had already lost its credibility when it failed to stand up to the US on Iraq.

[...] Dr. Violent Socks thinks that she knows why Rice is using this sort of action. Dr. Socks thinks that it’s step #4 on the road to an attack on a much weaker nation. I’m inclined to agree. [...]

Violet, I’m going to be pretty much free until May 5th my time (unless you’re actually one of my professors, in which case I’m going to be cramming for my number theory exam…).
Gordo, the US has about 6 troops in Afghanistan. The only land staging area that it can use immediately is Iraq; to use Afghanistan, it needs to move a tremendous number of troops to it first.

CaptainDMO is a troll from SYG. They show up at our blogs, toss unintelligible spew-grenades into the conversation, and run back to SYG, where they then pat each other on the back for the “war on feminism” .
Rather like the Bush Administrations “war on terror”.

Wonderful! Okay, if you could move the two Hyperion daylilies to the backyard and put the new ‘Home and Family’ rose in their place, that would be great. Then run down to the garden center and see if you can find some Rocket snapdragons to fill in — mixed colors are fine, just as long as they’re at least 36 inches. And if you could go ahead and dig the holes for ‘Full Sail’ and ‘Hot Cocoa’ that would be a huge help. Thanks!

Alon–
I don’t know what the terminology is elsewhere, but in the US, “troop” refers to an individual soldier.
The main reasons I’d think that an invasion would come from the Gulf and Iraq are: 1) I don’t think we’d get much support from any nations not already under occupation and 2) Given that, it looks like these routes would be the best way to isolate Iran’s most important population centers.
Are you planning to join the IDF?

That’s the terminology I was using. The US has 6 troops in Afghanistan, Kansas has 11 Democrats, San Francisco has 3 straight people, and so on.
Are you planning to join the IDF?
FSM, no. Even if I still lived in Israel, I’d probably just run away, but the difference would be that in that case I’d never be able to come visit without being thrown in jail for desertion.

As far as I can tell, the folks at SYG don’t exist merely to run back, then pat each other on the back for the “war on feminism”.
I look and opine at many blogs, I didn’t “show up” to toss “unintelligible” spew-grenades into conversation.
If this blog is deemed to be above contradiction, or noted for sophist sloganism, please note this at the header.
