Say hi!

By Violet Socks · Thursday, February 23rd, 2006 ·

Visitors to this blog over the past 24 hours:

I’ve been getting visitors from New Zealand lately, so I thought I’d take this picture for Cicely.

I just love this thing.

    By the way, Will, with my special x-ray vision I can distinguish your peg from all the other East Coast pegs. It looks just like you: fat and with bad teeth.

  2. manxome says:

    Oh, that’s who’s stepping on my toes. Will, get the hell off my foot, will ya?

  3. cicely says:

    Hey thanks, Violet Socks - it is very groovy indeed. I wonder why I still don’t show up red in Western Australia….? Do you think that barely discernable little green blob is me?

  4. Violet says:

    Are you in New South Wales?

  5. JC says:

    [*waves* Hi from the bottom bit of the south east corner of Australia]

    New South Wales is a very long way from Western Australia. It’s the equivalent of someone saying “I’m in Seattle” and someone else saying “Are you in New York?”

  6. Violet says:

    I was confused because at the time cicely was posting, the only track from Australia was labeled as coming from New South Wales, but it was shown on the map as being on the western side of Australia. I didn’t know what to think!

    And hi, JC!

  7. Violet says:

    I just went to check and it’s still there, on the west coast of Australia, with a label reading: Applecross, New South Wales, Australia. Can one of you Aussies explain what’s going on here? Does the government of NSW perhaps own a town called Applecross on the other side of the continent?

    Hi JC - This is so Violet. I’m in Perth, capital city of the State of Western Australia - the most isolated captital city in the world, I believe. The desert to our east, the Indian Ocean to our West. If you look (on your sreen) across to the left of the red lights on the east coast - right at the bottom ‘corner’ of the land there appears to be a green circle, or blob. If it’s anything at all, it’s probably me and anyone else who might be visiting you from here. I’m doing my best to make the blob turn red, but no luck so far….

    Oh, we’ve cross-posted Violet. Yay, Applecross is correct - that is the suburb I’m in. I’m just looking for my national postcode book to see if there’s an Applecross in NSW as well as in WA.

    Can’t find the book - of course - but anyway - it’s possible that two states have an Applecross and the system has only picked up one.

    So, you have not just narrowed this down to a town (as I understand the word ‘town’), but a suburb of a city. Pretty cool.

  10. will says:

    That is my fat peg manxome. Sorry.

    VS:I guess 5′6″ dark hair glasses frequently smiling, eyes sparkling.

  11. will says:

    New South Wales? You must know my friend Tams then. Smart, wonderful woman. Very attractive. Used to work for Lexis. Please tell her I said hello.

  12. cicely says:

    Nope - only one Applecross in OZ - in WA, not NSW. So that site is saying Applecross is on the west coast and in New South Wales - which is on the east coast. Maybe there’s a way to alert them of this error…

  13. cicely says:

    I sent an email from and to the tracking site.

  14. Violet says:

    Will: That’s pretty close, actually. Except my hair is golden brown, and while I’m blind as a bat, I’ve always worn contacts at work and out-and-about.

  15. Michael Bains says:

    Hey now & Howdy from Cleveland on the Erie, USoA.

    By the way, Site Meter uses ISP data to locate its pegs, so it may simply be that whatever ISP you’re using in SE Down Under also has outlets on the West coast. The colors are based ‘pon recence of visit.

    I’m no expert on this though; just a friendly freaky PC Monkey who can’t help but pick up some factoids o’er the course of my job. And like it. {-;

  16. Violet says:

    Hey, Michael, I know you’re in Cleveland, but are you a native Aussie or Brit? I noticed at your place that you use some British spellings and refer to Boxing Day, that sort of thing. Just wondering.

  17. Michael Bains says:

    I was born and raised in the USSteel town of Lorain, OH; about 30 miles west of Cleveland. Canadia being the other side of our beautiful pond, cultural refs to the Great White Northians are also an inevitable influence on this student of silly humans everywhere.

    The spelling thing has thrown me for loops for most of my life (always 2nd in the Spellin’ Bees!) but I just attribute it to the number of British authors I’ve read (Tolkien, Larry Niven and Arthur C Clarke for example.) I endeavour to spell words the way I see them in my mind, but dictionary dot com is definitely one of my most used links. {-;

    Funny thing, stylistically, I’d say I’m most influenced by good ol’ Sam Clemens, aka, well, you know… Oh, and with a (n un?)healthy dose of Tom Robbins as well.

    I truly hope to get over my “laziness” so’s I can write novels someday. I really think I’d enjoy reading ‘em!

    And, whilst I’ve never been out of country, I’m not putting retirement down under (or SE Asia way) out of the question. I’ve just got to stop gettin’ married and save me money! LOL! Not bloody likely, that. {sigh}
